Proof Platinum sets

Has anybody heard anything new from the mint about possibly doing a 10th anniversary set? Reverse Proof? If they do produce something special, do you think it will attract a new following for the series and thus increase the value of sets from previous years? Or do you think most people view these sets as just to expensive?

The mint has already said that they will do a 10th Anniv. set but has not confirmed the contents of it (it has been hinted that it will consist of 1/2 oz coins, possibly a reverse proof so either 2 or 3 coins in it).

Proly will not do much for long term interest as there are just too many sets of different things out there by the mint. I would guess that there will be an initial speculative frenzy and then it will calm down just like with the '06W series. Just look how many '06W 100 D. unc plats there are on ebay!

    Well, just Love coins, period.
  • The 10th set will do the same thing the anniv. sets have done every other time they are issued, build the collector base for the back and forward dates. Even if only 5 percent of the new buyers decide to work on other dates in the set thats 250+ new collectors. Thats not much for many series but with mintages this low it adds up. To say that it will have no impact on the series collector base is not a well founded statement. Long term the changing reverse plats have every prospect of being the generational super set.

In the out years the wealthy don't care if they are expensive as long as they are the rarest and best.
