New coin today - Barber

BochimanBochiman Posts: 25,556 ✭✭✭✭✭
I really don't like the barber coins....too many denominations that look alike with a design that I find "bleh".

However, we've been looking for a quarter for the 7070 and, with the criteria I have (seeing the legends) and my son has of liking the coin or not, from pics supplied (or in person if at a local show), we got this one today.

If I hadn't already let him have the honor of opening the envelope and getting the coin (since it is for his 7070 that we are doing together), then it would be the one I slip under his pillow as we found out he needs to have a baby tooth removed image (he is only 5 years old....removing the tooth is going to suck....I feel for the little guy)

(any suggestions on a coin that would be good to get (and able to get delivered to us by June 5th) that would be good to put under his pillow? I have some Roosies coming but they are slabbed......he has seen the rest of what we have......may have to resort to an Ike or "Golden Dollar" image

Image from JJTeaparty as I haven't been home yet to do my own image....hope they don't mind image

    Wow!

Over 2 hours and no replies to this "non-modern".
I think I am not the only one around here that isn't partial to barbers image

Real nice coin, I like the look! I don't know much about Barbers, but I do like them.

I would guess vf-20...your son should be very happy with the new addition for the Dansco 7070.

I have given my son circulated Morgan dollars for his lost teeth. They are ubiquitous and relatively cheap. With his first tooth, he also received a DVD (Fantastic Four, IIRC).

As for the Barber, on the basis of the photo, I personally do not care for it, but I have little interest or passions for Barbers, in general. Ironically, I really liked Barber dimes as a child; it was one of my favorite series.

Onecent - JJTeaparty agrees with your grade image (and, while I can't grade barbers to the point that I would trust myself all the time, I would agree as well...and the price wasn't too bad....it also fits one of the things I do with the 7070....I try to get birthyear -100 (or, as appropriate, -200, years....this did that since he was born in 2002).

RYK - I, personally, agree with you about the barbers, but, I did want us to fill the whole...that is part of what being a "typeset" is. I do have a barber dime I like more though image

bfjohnson - from the pic, I was worried about that as well. Inhand, I looked and looked, with a loupe, and if it was cleaned, it wasn't harshly and I can't tell. It may have a very old, light, cleaning, but I honestly don't see it. I am fine with the coin based on my inhand inspection of it today.

Thanks...but to me, all that really mattered is my son likes it (it is "our" typeset but it is really his and he knows it....he has "executive veto power" on any coin he doesn't like...and he did like this one) image
