Notice anything?... Answer posted, and new pics.
First off I'd like to thank Bob Campbell for imaging this coin. I think he did a very nice job.
So what do you notice about this coin?

I don't know the vams, but is the line through the tail feathers (which I, at a moment's glance, thought was a ray through the feathers but then noticed it wasn't) what is making it a vam?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Are you expanding your collecting horizons?
Die doubling on the motto, as evident in the "D" in God and in "We".
Did I guess correctly?
Edited for typo in artifact.
Same markers, different mint mark though. Tough to see in the photos in the thread.

OK, first off K, I actually collected Peace dollars back in the late '80's early '90's. I put together a full set in (rattler) 64/65, many of which would upgrade by todays standards. I'm currently putting together a raw set in AU58 to MS63. Anyhow, I am not a VAM sort of a guy, so I wouldn't know a VAM # if my life depended on it. When looking through the dealers box, on this coin I noticed the extreme doubling of Liberty's face's profile, which is what really attracted me to the coin. The obverse looked good and I didn't really pay too much attention to the reverse, as all the "action" was on the obverse (and I didn't learn until later that one of the diagnostics was on the reverse). I noticed the lighter area on the reverse, but didn't focus on it. Ah well, yet another lesson in purchasing raw coins. When I got it out of it's 2x2 at home it was obvious. C'est la vie.
Anyhow, after I mentioned the coin on the boards, Pharmer was kind enough to inform me of the VAMworld website. I checked it out and the coin is a VAM 3 Medium D DDO. The 4 main diagnostics are: 1) on the reverse the D, 2) doubling of the rear rays of Liberty's Tiara, 3) doubling of some of IGWT, and 4) doubling of Liberty's profile. I graded the coin as a MS62 when purchasing it, and my purchase price was reasonable enough that while I'm bummed about the cleaning the really COOL doubling more than makes up for that little faux pas. Unless a coin is harshly whizzed, it is often difficult to detect light
cleaning from a picture (Peace Dollars) though many here think they can.
Die file lines often look like hairlines, chatter can look worse than it is, ect.
Any angle or lighting change during photography will hide or enhance marks on a coin.
Not to mention photoshop afterwards..
Your coin looked roughly like a 63 at first glance to me, a VAM 3 or 4, couldn't make
out the mint mark type. Same obverse die on the two VAM's, different reverse.
If I'm buying something like this, I just wanted to stress how important the
owner's description is, backed up with pictures and reputation, and lasty trust
your experience and gut feeling.
Thanks for the post, just revisted a dozen old circulated 34-D's I had, and found (2) XF VAM-3's...
