Lincoln Date Set... Help Please!

llafoellafoe Posts: 7,220 ✭✭
My daughter has decided to put together a date set of Lincolns that she plans to display at her school. She likes the "look" of the NGC slabs better than the PCGS slabs, so she's buying MS65RD NGC slabs. She also likes the "P" cents and is only buying those from the Philly mint (with the exception of 1922, of course).

My questions are:

What coin should she buy in 1982 (bronze/zinc & lg/sm), 1992, 1998 & 1999... it looks like NGC is denoting these either Close or Wide.

Also, what is the definitive Lincoln book that would best fit her project (she'll be in 4th Grade).

  • Standard Guide to the Lincoln Cent by Sol Taylor. SLCC (Society of Lincoln Cent Collectors) was started by Sol and is transitioning to leadership of Charles Daughtrey. Mr Daughtrey is an excellent source and has a great website as well

On the 1992 the Wide is the norm or common type, so it would seem this would be the one for an ordinary date type. On the 1998 & 1999 the Close is the norm or common type. I'm not sure how to handle the 1982, maybe just go with copper since it was the first issued.
Witty sig line currently under construction. Thank you for your patience.

Apparently, they didn't make a copper cent in 1982. image

The only coins NGC has listed are:

    1982 LG DT BRONZE
    1982 SM DT BRONZE
    1982 LG DT ZINC
    1982 SM DT ZINC
