ANYONE KNOW A GOOD DEALER IN NY OR PA??

I'm looking for a good/knowledgeable dealer new my home in central new york. I would like to find a dealer who will be helpful and honest with me as I learn the ropes of coin collecting. I'm new and looking for some guidance. Any help would be great as there are just too many dealers for me to sift through if someone knows of a couple good ones. Thanks!!

Central NY is a big place. Can you give a reference to a large nearby town?

    Stacks?
  • Syracuse NY is the closest town, but I would be willing to drive if someone knows of a good dealer that is not that close. Willing to drive a few hours each way.
  • Sly, you can go to the PCGS home page and on the left hand side on of the items is Authorized Dealers. You can search this list by city, state, or area of specialty.

We're in Manhattan on West 57th Street, open weekdays from 10-5. If you ever get down to the city, stop by and say hi!
  • I actually come down to the city quite often and next time I'm down I'll stop by. Thanks

The closest person I have dealt with person is Dave Kreamer, located in northcentral PA. He has always treated me very well, and usually has a decent selection of type coins.

Hey Sly, you've got PMs activiated for your user ID. I've sent you one and I'll bet a half-dozen other users have too! If you look at the tiny padlock icon in the upper left corner of this scre3en beneath the Collectors universe logotype and just above the equally tiny graph icon "view forum polls" you should see that the padlock icon is "blinking" alternating from red to gold. This means that you have new PMs (Private Messages). Click on the link to read them and then just click on the links that pop up naturally to follow the PM threads.

    Cheers!

I recommend Kendall's stamp and coin in Ithaca. Kendall's is particularly good if you want to sit down and talk coins for a while and learn the ropes. 607-277-3301. Ithaca Coin & Jewelry is also a good one (on State street) with generally low prices. Both of these shops are nice to deal with. Call them before you make the trip- they are only there certain days of the week, and you should ask if they have what you're looking for, too.

The board referred me to Kendall's in Ithaca when I was up there last weekend for our son's graduation. I spent a couple of hours there. Lots of neat stuff. Truly an old-fashioned bricks and mortar store. People kept drifting in and out and the talk was all about coins. They're located in the lower of DeWitt Mall just off the Commons in the downtown area. Great place to talk shop but not a lot of high end coins. Mostly everything is raw and probably has been picked over ad infinitum.

Ithaca Coin and Jewelery no longer exists. It's now called Ithaca Swap and is at 601 W. State St. Better check on hours because I don't think there's any official hours regardless of what might be posted. I walked down there twice but the store was not opened. Definitely call first (607-272-2550). It's not truly a coin shop but more of what the name implies - all kinds of different things. I didn't see any coins or coin related items when I peeked in the window.
