I assume that these types of stories do exist and would love to here about same. I assume that a person who bought a 1950 proof set in 1950 for $1.89 being told he or her were wasting money could have the last laugh today.

Do you have any of these stories?

Back in the '90's I used to offer $40 for any 1982 or '83 quarter in gem.

I sure didn't get very many but it was enough to get a lot of people to
check their rolls or sets. Today an MS-60 retails more than $40 for the
    '83-P.

Anyone that bought that same 1950 proof set back then is, if they are still around, ready for retirement...they better be selling image

To answer you title question...sure. I paid $100 for ~$39 of bullion that many, on here, critiqued as a poor choice. I waited a month and made quite a killing. The ones I still have left are worth a lot as well. image

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'll come back to this thread in 15 years when all my CH BU '81-S Morgans are selling for $1000 apiece.

In the mid 90s I paid a dealer his asking price for a 1794 half in F-12--around $1850 IIRC. That seems like a good deal now. --Jerry
  • In 1955 i paid a quarter for an circulated 1955 Jeff ( a lot of money, that would have been a coke, potato chips and a candy bar). Just found it again not too long ago still wrapped in the cellophane and I can see it's FS but old cellophane is stiff and over the front of the coin but it looks like a decent strike. Bet when it's slabbed it will be worth a few quarters.
