So how do I file a USPS insurance claim?

I was seller. USPS label w/insurance (<$100) and electronic DC printed via Paypal. Mailed 5/7, buyer hasn't received it and no delivery per USPS web site. How do I file the claim?
TIA.

Go to the post office and the post master will assist you. I haven't made a claim in years, but as I remember it was fairly simple.

<< <i>Can't do it online with the online-generated postage and insurance? >>
Nope. It has to be processed through the post office branch where the item was shipped. You'll be filling out form 1000. Print out a copy of the auction, a copy of the PayPal payment notification, and a copy of the invoice if you provide them to buyers. You'll also need a copy of the PayPal printout for the postage and insurance. For a smaller claim like this, your local PO can make the claims decision.

It's 21 days.

Ya, and then you have to wait twice that long to get paid

My last claim took three weeks from filing to check arrival, and it was large enough that it could not be handled locally.

I filed a claim on 5-4-07. I called 1-866-974-2733 2 days ago to see why I did not receive my money. The guy told me it takes 30 days for the claim to get processed by their computers plus the time for processing and mailing out the check.
Get that one at least once a year or so.

I presume I don't get reimbursed for my mailing costs (mailer, postage, etc.) do I? So whenever you have an insurance loss, you still eat a few bucks since you reimburse the buyer the full price + S/H/I, right?

<< <i>They will reimburse for the cost of the packaging if any. >>
They've never done that on any of my claims. Just the value of the item plus basic postage cost.

The couple of times I needed to file an insurance claim though I provided also the insurance cost ($24. on one of the packages) and was refunded that cost, along with the Priority mailing cost, when the check arrived. Possibly it isn't their policy and I was simply lucky.
Payment was fairly quick too. About three weeks or so.
