I also think it is strange that Stuppler is referred to as a "candidate". He is running unopposed, so it is not exactly a democratic-type process that we are going through. He is going to be the self-appointed ruler of the ANA, simply because no one is challenging him.

The support Barry has for the incumbents is obvious. That doesn't bother me. He will be President and he can help the ANA. JMHO. Steve
P.S. Guess who I think will be the new third party grading service for the ANA?

Ladies and Gentlemen - the names listed above are those of the regime with their allies - essentially the same old circus but now with some new clowns as well as some old ones (save for Schwenker). I read their new "manifasto" - and I think its a huge load of crap. What they're really saying is that we'll make promises but more than likely we will most certainly break them.
With the ballots being mailed out, when everyone receives them, ask yourself this question when voting - "Do you want to continue the politics of the past and all the cronyism that comes with it, or do you want new leadership where honesty and ethics matter most?"
Here is how I see it - If 7 new governors were to be elected and are not associated or allied with the regime, then the plans set forth by Stuppler, Finner, and their cronies in their "manifasto" will be questioned.

Michael,
It's funny that I agree with your statement above, that if 7 new governors are elected it will cause a change in how the ANA has been operating the past couple of years. The problem I have is the way you say it. Barry is going to be President. I think he will be open to change IF he sees he will be dealing with a NEW board. Making him out to be "the bad guy" does NOT help in the reconciliation that MUST happen after the election. If you are perceived to be "my way or the highway" you cannot win. I just got my June 4th Coin World and I do want to support you, but please moderate what you say. I have 7 votes out of 12 people I will vote for. There are some good people in that other 5. Steve

Steve-- I would be interested in reading your comments on what the candidates wrote in the CW issue. I found them to be very interesting.

You know as well as I that Stuppler and Finner are unopposed. I never had to deal with Stuppler but Finner is a whole different matter. What I was trying to state is that there is a possibility that Stuppler could be inflexible. I have to keep that scenario in mind. Also, I do not have a "my way or the highway" mentality, Steve. My argument is that in order to keep Stuppler and Finner in check that both the incumbents (Kagin, Bourne, and Herbert) and the pro-regime challengers (Fitts and Wolka) need to be defeated so that pro-reform candidates like Misher, Krause, Rochette, and myself can get in.
The ANA is set up as a "watchdog" so to speak with respect to coin sales on the Bay. I'm not going to point to all the links needed to make the point but the ANA has oversight, they have the ability based on eBays rules to can any seller whether they are ANA members or not.
The ANA is being used to create a false sense of security for coin buyers on eBay and they do nothing to use the abilities given to them by eBay to police sellers.
The ANA has the means already given to them by eBay.
Unless they are doing something behind the scenes and according to my sources, they are not...the ANA needs to address the relationship between themselves and Ebay. They sweep it under the rug. I think I could drum up a large number of new members to the ANA by getting the ANA to take a stance officially, out in the open in front of the Ebay public and not in the Numismatist. Anything said in the Numismatist, which is bland on this subject at best, is like preaching to the choir.
I have documented to the ANA, over 200 sales by only one Power Seller that blatantly breaks eBays rules. Of course there are many sellers like that but I concentrated on one seller . The members of the board that I am voting for, agree that the guy is a rule breaking and rule bending seller. Those board members who have had and maintained my respect are distressed by the ANA's lack of foresight on this subject. To this point, The ANA has not stepped up to do anything with respect to eBay. It is important to say that some of the Board members have been extremely helpful but for them, this is also an upstream swim.
Here is my fear. There will one day be a class action suit against certain coin sellers on eBay, I think that eBay will get sued and I truly think that the ANA will be found as a party to a suit since they are listed on eBay as the maker of rules and the enforcer of the rules with respect to selling coins on eBay. I think that in front of a huge crowd of coin buyers on ebay that The ANA will be made to look bad. By sitting back and doing nothing they appear to condone the actions of the power sellers that are involved in breaking rules and misleasding the coin buying public. I know in the hearts of many of the Board members that this concerns them deeply.
I suspect that eBay is paying for the use of the ANA name. If the ANA is supposed to be in the corner for the collector then they need to get off their tail ends and deal with the rip-offs on eBay or they need to distance themselves from Ebay.
This is the one factor and how it will be handled that my decision for new Board members will be based. I've already contacted some candidates with my question pertaining to this and I am happy with some of the responses I've recieved.
So what will be done?
Thanks,
Bill
PS: I will be sending a copy of this to Barry as well...

<< <i>OK, Its time to pop this out front. For two years, I've been working behind the scenes by emailing and corresponding with all the current officers at the ANA. I have one concern. The ANA's connection with eBay.

Here is my take on the ANA's connection with eBay (aka "Flea-Bay) I used to sell items on eBay (mostly darkside items), and I decided long ago to stop because 1) I was losing money every time I was selling stuff on there, 2) increased fees and stupid rules on things such as what I can and can't sell, 3) trying to contact eBay on anything is no different than talking to a brick wall, and you have to practically nag them to death for any answers, and 4) no 1-800 number for customer service and the people in their live chat aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, if you know what I mean.
Personally, I think the ANA's affiliation with eBay is a recipe for failure because eBay is, for all practical purposes, one global flea market. I would bet that only a small percentage of the sellers and bidders are members of the ANA. Cleaning up eBay would be, in my opinion, next to impossible, even with any and all policy changes (again, eBay is a GLOBAL company). Now consumer education, on the other hand, if done right, can, for the most part, lessen these problems, and again, if done right. From what I have seen on eBay, the ANA should just cut their losses and end their affiliation with them, at least in my own opinion.
By the way folks, Mike was the first to respond to my request on a stance with respect to Ebay.
I liked his response...basically stated and to the point!!
Thanks Again!

I noticed that about the Presidental position.....why is that do you (generic...anyone can answer) think?
Why wouldn't anyone that is running for a board spot go for President?
Do they think they wouldn't win against him?
Do they think it is a "no-win" spot?
Scared of true responsibility?
See it as a title with no power?
Scared of Cipoletti?
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
<< <i>My agenda is to vote all incumbents OUT on their collective rears. >>
TOTAL agreement.
I am also not voting for President or Vice President. Since they are elected with the first vote cast, if they receive fewer votes than the, hopefully, completely non-incumbent Board that will be elected, they should "read" the message of support being sent, in protest.

I shall vote for no incumbent. You have my vote. I will also not vote for any non-incumbent who appears to affiliate himself with the ideas of the incumbents.
In return, if you get elected....we expect YOU to remember the membership...i.e. the "average Joe" coin collector.

Bill,
In my opinion the ANA relationship with Ebay is just a general partnership with NO teeth expected by either party. Why? M O N E Y
The ANA has no people available on staff to do ANY policing job for Ebay. I don't even think it is a good idea for them to start. Too many legal issues and the bottom line is IT COSTS MONEY. Steve

Bochiman, from my understanding, the qualifications (requirements) to be a candidate for Board President are more difficult to meet than to be a candidate for Board Governor. For one thing, you need a certain number of years of service on the ANA Board (although I don't know what number that is). So, of the 14 people running for Governor, many would not meet the qualifications required to be a candidate for President.

Actually, Sue McMillian , a person with her heart in the right place, has the responsibility as the consumer awareness person and has been helpful but again, she can't do much against the "machine"...and Barry Stuppler is the primary board member at this time that is the go between , between the ANA and Ebay.
The people are ther, and if they take advantage of what eBay has already set up for them to do, the ANA can take a stand against the frauds that occur on Ebay with respect to selling coins.
If the ANA is set up to have no teeth, which may be evident by the lack of anything substantial happening with respect to this problem, then it should not be set up as such and the ANA and Ebay should part ways.
I agree, it's money. In my opinion, It's like Ebay, paying for the ANA to look the other way.
On many coin collecting forums and without any of my input, the perception of the ANA is being tarnished badly by the connection between the ANA and Ebay.
Thanks,
Bill

Yep, you can look at it as the ANA taking the money and looking the other way.

I find it very strange that NGC would allow its website to be used by the President-Elect to endorse candidates for Governor. Especially when the article is entitled "Help Set the ANA's Agenda".

I have a theory about that - ANA is looking for an "official" grading service. NGC currently holds that spot, and by currying favor with Stuppler and his cronies that they (NGC) will continue to have that spot. Just a theory but you have to wonder.
