1993 Topps Finest Foil Box

Is there a refractor per box?
image

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

There's 24 packs a box, with 1:18 odds of finding a refractor. So in most cases you get one refractor, though a few boxes contain two. (Jan 1994 Beckett Baseball Card Monthly)

Yes, 1 per box for the most part, but most of the boxes sold on ebay have been searched. It's easy to tell which pack has the refractor (wrapped a little differently), and Topps didn't put a logo on their shrink wrap that year. A lot of guys are opening the box and pulling the refractor pack out, then re-shrink-wrapping the box and selling at full price. The box I got from BBCE was legit.

Did you open it yet? If so, how many refractors did you get? Who was it?

Kevin Brown was my refractor. I was hoping for better, but at least it was centered well.

  • I'm getting old so consider the source. My son and I broke a ton of the product. For some reason I thought there were 18 packs per box. I am sure about this, the early boxes had 2 refs. per box. The packs with the refractors were different. The flaps at the seams on the back were right over left, or left over right. Price from the factory was higher on Fleer Flair than Finest. I also recall the early boxes all had refractor lines.

I believe there were 18 packs per box and the odds of getting a refractor were 1:17. Also, as mentioned before, the cellophane did not have the Topps logo on it so they were very easy to reseal.

The box I am talking about is described as having 18 packs also.

You guys are right, the January 1994 Beckett article does NOT say there are 24 packs in a box (or specifies it in any way). They also warned that some people have opened the boxes up, took the jumbo All-Star card out and then re-shrinkwrapped the box, so look out for that too.
