can anyone recommend a decent loupe or magnifying type glasses that is worn on the head? i keep switching back and forth from reading glasses to a loupe to a microscope, depending on what i am checking. i want to free up my hands so i can handle my 'specimens' thanks in advance.

Try these. They work well with glasses.
