Goldberg auction

I am kicking myself for not putting in some bids. The german state/austrian talers I was tracking came out fairly close to estimates. I was close to bidding on these lots, but did not get around to it. I am surprised that there was a lack of interest in the Salzburg piece, but again maybe it did not look good in hand.

I bid on a bunch of BUFL Victorian farthings and halfpennies. I got my $** kicked on every one of them.
I guess Mr. PLatinum was right all along. I am a bottom feeder.

Don't feel too bad... I lost the one I really wanted as well. All things considered, I thought it was a strong bid... at the moment, I am not sure how it all turned out, but I know 4 bids were loosers.

Hi Gazza,
It went for $725 plus 20% juice (an ebay bidder won it). I didn't put a bid in on it, though it could have filled a hole for me as a different die pairing than the one I already own.
Other auctions for BUFLs I watched (and some I put strong bids in):
1860 BB Farthing, $190 + 15%
1861 Halfpenny, $370 + 15%
1879 Farthing, $130+15%
1881 Farthing, 3 berries/no H, $180+15%
1886 Farthing, $160+15%
1888 Farthing, $260+15% (crikey, I bought Colin Cooke's personal collection's blazing BUFL last year for less than half of that!!)
1893 Farthing, normal date spacing variety, $160+15%
Note that technical condition didn't matter - some were 64's and one a 66. They were all magnificent pieces with full lustre.
Except for possibly the 1861 halfpenny and the 1886 farthing, all of these prices are insane. Oh well, nothing is more sobering than reality.
At least I drove most of those prices up for someone.

<< <i>Thanks Wybrit, I can not believe I forgot what day the auction was on. When I tried to call, even though I am an established bidder of many years they would not take a single telephone bid (for the 1874 1/2d). BTW, do you also have a mint specimen? I have been trying to get one, but obviously not hard enough for some while... >>
7Jaguars, send me a PM if you're really looking for an 1874 1/2d. in a nice unc.....includes famous pedigree.

<< <i>OK, let me not embarrass myself (or the opposite), how do we PM on this site as I have never done it before? >>
