Is the Mint extending the Statehood Quarter Program?

I have read or heard that the Statehood Quarter program will continue past its original end date to include DC, Puerto Rico and the other three protectorates. Does anyone have any real facts on this?

God I hope not. I long for the days of one cent, one nickel, one dime, one quarter and one half dollar.

Me, too. But preferably with new designs. And preferably without the cent after 2009.

They should go retro and go back to the traditional look of Washington after the Statehood series ends. No more spaghetti hair!!

It's the District of Columbia and United States Territories Circulating Quarter Dollar Program ! This is not an extension, continuation, or modification of the statehood quarters. This is a new and separate program.

I am not a state quarter fan or collector, but I don't understand why so many modern collectors hate this idea. By collecting westward nickels, statehood quarters, and presidential dollars aren't people essentially asking for more and more programs? Why complain when a program comes along that doesn't interest you? Are modern stamp collectors up in arms about the new Incredible Hulk stamps?!?!

Me too! I also long for cheaper mint and proof sets but thats going to be a long way off!

Anybody know whats going to happen with the Lincoln series in 2009? I know there will be special composition cents but will those be included in the mint sets and proof sets like the Westward Journey nickels?

Quarter fatigue has set for many and they have the Presidential dollars the new Lincoln Cent program and I'm sure other programs in the pipeline. It's just my opinion the Statehood quarter program should be put to bed, besides my US Mint boxes are all obsolete now anyway with the Pres dollars being added.

Should they get a smaller denomination than quarters, say dimes?

A bill is pending in Congress for quarters to honor DC, Puerto Rico etc. If it gets passed it will probably be
in the final days of Congress for this year in one of those "housekeeping" sessions where they clear out
the misc. less important pieces of legislation from the pipeline.

This will probably not happen again until the coin hobby collapses and there's no more profit from making circulating commemoratives.

Pretty soon they are going to do a "circulating" commemorative series for the half dollars (just a prediction...there's no news of this yet.)

Or should Mexico be issuing a coin for the US as part of their provinces series? image

Sure....maybe we can continue to add a new country or protectorate every year, and keep calling it the STATE QUARTER programimage

Sorry, but Los Estados Unidos Mexicanos are an union of thirty-one free and sovereign states which form a Union that exercises jurisdiction over the Federal District (Mexico City) and other territories. If you want a "State quarter" program for Mexico you'll need a few more pages for your Dansco.

Canada has already done a Province set of 12 Twenty-five Cent coins (dated 1992) so add 3 more pages.

Finally! A coin album with some heft to it! image

We will have to add a state or two in order to extend the series.

I think we need to move beyond state quarters into "Guy who contributed the most to my campaign" coins.
