Semi-OT (rude Darkside currency newp- WARNING)

I just bought this little set of German (Paderborn) Notgeld notes. Cool notes with interesting designs, but the 2-mark note in the center is the prize.

Apparently the Germans were not beyond a little self-satirical pictorial commentary about the value of their currency in 1921. imageimage

Cool currency. What peaked your interest, to start collecting currency?

I don't collect currency. But I think the notgeld is cool. And who can pass up a defecating donkey?

IGWT, that sure does look like a menorah, which would be strange and ironic, considering the whole German/Jewish unpleasantness that would take place not long afterward. But don't menorahs (menorah? menorim? menoree? whatever) have seven branches? I dunno. That could just be a bigarsed fancy candelabrum.

Lots of the Weimar German (and prewar Imperial German) currency is really attractive (when they aren't portraying crapping critters). Cheap, too. Ditto for the Russian stuff from the same period. I don't collect it and have no reference book since I long ago sold my tattered 1976 Pick world currency book, but I could get into it... if I didn't already have too many irons in the fire, so to speak. I like US fractional currency, too.
