Ouch! (PSA 9 '57 Bunning)

Sold for $3,525 at REA on 4/29:

Bunning 9

Sold for $2,030 on eBay 5/28

Bunning 9

This is the exact same card. Looks like somebody took a bath on it.
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."

  • "consignmints" seems to be flipping a lot of REA cards. seemed to have won big with the 79 OPC smith though

My God, you're not kidding about the Ozzie. I didn't even realize. They (or their consignor) nearly doubled up.

I was the underbidder on that Bunning in the REA auction. I'm glad that I lost.

  • Is that even a strong PSA 9 with the left rough edge?

The general consensus on the boards is that auctions houses ARE better for hi end/lo pop cards/sets? So why would consignmints, in all their infinite wisdom, buy from the auction house and sell on ebay?

The strategy of buying a single high dollar card from ML, REA, Mastro and then trying to flip it on ebay seems pretty iffy.

Now, maybe you can get a bargain here or there. But wouldn't you want lots with less competition?

Say, a 200 card collection of 30's gum cards. Or 500 50's Topps stars. Not everyone has the time, money or patience to break up lots like that, and thus you have some type of advantage trying to sell on ebay. Or buy from a less well known auction house or something like that.

If you look at the 30 day bidding history, the winner of the Bunning card was the second-place bidder on the Ozzie Smith card.
  • Consignments always seems to get higher dollar for their cards, makes me wonder whats going on. Anybody have some insight as to why?
