Which box to get?

I have a few bucks, and want to get a hobby box. I have narrowed it down to either 2006 upper deck artifacts or 2006 bowman heritage. In ud artifacts you get 4 hits (3 gu, 1 auto) for about $50-55. In Bowman Heritage you get 3 hits (1 auto,2 gu) for $40-50. Any suggestions?

  • I'd go with latter, but -- then again -- I hate UD.
  • I'd go with neither. The Artifacts set is one of those sets that will get lost in mediocrity. The Bowman Heritage will never have the following that Topps Heritage has...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

It just seems like the big hit out of a box of topps heritage is a chrome card.

I fool around with both Topps and Bowman Heritage. Topps are more popular but I am begining to like the Bowman's more for two reasons. The first being boxes can be had for cheaper. That being said they probably cheaper( box wise) because they are not as popular. Second, the set is smaller even though the packs are gimmicked more with the minis and the chromes taking up two cards.

I have found that completing the Bowman set to be on the same difficulty level as Topps set. In the Topps world I am chasing the multiple SP's. While Bowman does have SP's I found that I can get them easier because I can trade the gimmick inserts to player/team collectors who just happen to have what I need. The problem is finding what I need.

As for your question, if your looking solely for hits i.e. 2 GU and Autograph I think your going to be disappointed. The GU are really nothing spectacular. Its the same guys who have tons GU stuff in other lines and years.

As for the autographs, they are prospects and not the big names like Pujols, Ortiz and etc. Essentially your throwing down $45 to chase after 3 cards that may or may not pan out in the long run. the big gun in the bowman au world is Gordon and Maybin. Either one is selling near the cost of a box. The rest of the AU cards in some cases can be had on ebay for less than a cost of a pack.

Personally I like wax boxes because I like busting packs.

I want to try and do the set, I was just kind of throwing the number of autos and GU out there because that is how many guys assess the price or how good the box is and they are also a little fun bonus. It's good for me that they are cheap too since that is hard to come by today. I figure after 2 hobby boxes I could complete at least the base set although those boxes might be few and far between. Thanks for the help.

Goot- for the money you can buy a 1988 Fleer Glossy set w/traded and still have a few bucks left over for various game used/auto's -----http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=1988+fleer+glossy+set

Artifacts was one of the worst products of 06, stay away or get a better price. Bowman Heritage was also kind of a disaster.
You can't tell the color variations. You do have some nice hits in Bow Her....Gordon and Maybin are both in the auto set. You
will also get 2 GU which aren't that great.

Are you getting these from a shop or on line? There are SO MANY boxes in this price range and many a better buy. There was pleny of
wax last year, its a buyers market, especially on those 2 you mentioned.

I'll probably be forced to buy online as my shops selection isn't great. What other products do you recommend for a $50 box?

    Kings for under 55. Also 06 Turkey Red isn't bad either..under 60 I think.

Goot - If you are just looking for "hits", I would recommend
2005 Topps Pack Wars. Seven hits per box, can be had for
    around $60.00.
