Home PCGS Set Registry Forum

My 'Top Picks' on who should be in CHARGE of the Registry (in order, too):

1) ME. Of course, that's a given. No one is more qualified to filter out the blah blah blah and is ready to roll up his sleeves and get down to some nitty gritty business.

2) Wondercoin: A distant second choice, but a contendor. Ok, so he lives pretty close to PCGS and has a day to day working relationship with the PCGS personel. Plus, I guess he does know a lot about coins, especially the Moderns and the Registries. And, I guess he has helped formulate some of the Registry policy in the past and appears to be a man of ethics and high morals and one that when he says he'll get the job done- it's done.

3)RegistryCoin (Steve, to me. We're friends): A true collector, not just in spirit, but by example. A gentleman. A scholar. An all around good guy (plus he owns some really cool coins!).

4)Spooly. Only because, for some odd reason, he doesn't want to do it.

5) TomB. He's got a great icon.

6) SunRa: I know he's not a coin collector nor does he contribute to these forums, but he's a funny guy who's also intelligent (read FF: that combination IS possible).

7) Michael Dixon: He'll buy anything.

8) Dog97: He's never come right out and said he likes me, but I think he secretly does.

9) CC2k: I know he's been gone for awhile, but this just might be the ticket to pull him out of retirement.

-Did I miss anyone?

I think (with me out, Pat in) you have the perfect four. If Spooly wants to bow out, let TomB in, and Spooly can be the tie-breaker. I think you guys have got it. Congratulations. Isn't the voting thing all screwed up anyway? Haven't there been many, many people creating new names tonight to vote?? Go with what is staring you right in the face.

See what's happening? We are all too smart. Obviously if your involved in buying and selling coins, the registry, weighting, sales and leasebacks, you know your numbers. If there is a way around something you'll find it. We all want our little bit of control. People are creating new identies, with no posts, just to skew the numbers in our little "vote". We will not give up our need to have a little bit of the control. That's how you probably got into the registry in the first place. Let's let the four/five people I mentioned give it a shot. Try it for the time it takes to take care of the current "to-do" list. This may just seem ok to (most) everyone, who knows.

Hey, I almost forgot Cameron. He's already been in'd. So that is the six if spooly is in. If it doesn't work, kick somebodies behind out. There's a real nice line of people patiently awaiting their turn. (it's just their order keeps changing) Are you still around Cameron?

Well, RegistryCoin took care of the voting, got to love a pure democracy don't you? People have been creating identities to skew the voting? I am sure there is proof of this, first I have heard of it. I have not seen a to-do list yet. Sort of a cart in front of the horse thing. No reason to wait for all of the members who may have been on vacation, or missed one day on this forum to come up with all of these answers. We should have this thing all cleared up by morning. I wish the Government moved this fast.

Now the way it probably should be. Come up with an agenda, Spooly does have a nice frame work for this in place. Get PCGS to agree to this idea, without that, this is nothing but a waste of time. Then, and only then, should "we" try to decide who should be our representatives.

Who said anything involved here is a democracy? If you're referring to the registry forum, we're divided on each and every issue 55%/45%.
  • I must agree with dbldie55. Slow down, and let everyone speak.

    Steve, Modman, etc.

This is Rick M.'s position on the council matter. This was just written to me 5 minutes ago by Rick M.

    1. A council of "one guy"
    2. Nothing ever gets done in Committee
    3. Mitch: "you da man"
    4. good luck

Sounds like there is nothing for anyone to do. PCGS has spoken. It was a good idea though. Guess it will be back to how it was. Wonder how Rick got wind of it this late at night?

Why haven't I seen anywhere in this forum where Rick tells the rest of us that Mitch is "da man"? I agree with Rick in his wish of good luck. I suspect any suggestions and/or complaints brought forward by Mitch on our behalf will be met with as much interest as would be should any other single person in the collecting world be making the suggestion... with a deaf ear. Rick, you've done a good job of getting yourself out of this mess without a scratch and apparently it has worked. Your choice of one person to be our representaive to PCGS is, in my opinion, a cop-out. One question.. why Mitch? Hmmm...
    Matt
  • Because Mitch brings in the $$$. They look at me or you and skuff... PCGS isnt doing a damn thing to help us. Open your eyes people. EVERYTHING they do is for profit motive.

We actually had dealers on this board who I am sure send just a few more coins to PCGS than Mitch, and they gave an opinion about this. I don't think this was a $$$ thing, but had to do with someone talking to Rick, and Rick selecting Mitch. I think it is pretty clear.

So to follow up, I don't see anything changing so why bother. You are correct that $$$ is what is driving everything, and as soon as the registry hype wears thin and revenue is affected, then something may change. But I wouldn't expect to much before that.

  • PCGS sees it as "as long as it aint broke dont fix it". They will passify you as LONG as they can until they actually have to get up and do something about it.

I really wish SEGS had the grading ability as PCGS does, or PCGS had the customer service SEGS does...

  • PCGS created the registry as a marketing tool, and it remains as that, and only that. It brings in huge profits for them now, as thousands of modern coins are now being submitted. Check the pops for any post-64 stuff before the registry was started, they look nothing like they do now. Sooner or later, the big guys (with the big $$$) are going to take over every category of the registry, and it will die out as people realize it's a completly artificial market. For now, it's a fad, like the roll craze of the 60's, and it will come to an end. All of this work will prove to be worthless, but for now, why not try to improve it?

The big bucks only take over the top position(s). What's the problem not being #1? #6 and #9 are pretty good sets too. Is this at the heart of everyone's problem? Only one can be #1.

I really wish PCGS had a Customer Service department.
