Error in Stacks catalog - corrected!

Here is an 1838 Gobrecht dollar in which they misuse the diagnostics to declare the coin to be a very rare original strike. In fact, all 1838 Gobrechts in Die Alignment III are considered to be restrikes - regardless of the state of the reverse die. A perfect reverse die state is considered to be a diagnostic for 1836 and 1839 Gobrechts - not 1838!

That coin can not have any sharper details. I mean look at it, it's just BOOM, so sharp and stick out.

The J-84 in the Smithsonian is also a Die Alignment IV. National Collection

Using the Stacks diagnostics, most [if not all] of the extent 1838's would be considered 'originals'.

They deserve a pat on the back for accepting the error and making a correction where as many bidders as possible can see it. Good for Stacks!

Thanks Bruce. I am currently the one that started the bid. Want only an original. Not sure if I will retract it yet. Will think about it. Funny how I was confused reading the description over and over thinking I AGAIN didnt have it down on restrike vs. originals with the Gobrechts!!!!
