1963 Fleer Football Completed !!!

2dueces2dueces Posts: 6,440 ✭✭✭✭✭
With the recent addition of two major cards Len Dawson PSA 8 and Lance Alworth PSA 8, I have completed my 63 set.
The journey started in 2000 when I decided to put together a PSA football set. The GPA stands at 7.66. The set consists
of straight 7's and 8's with 2 9oc that will be upgraded to straight 8's. I will upgrade some 7's along the way, but it will
not be an aggressive venture. Thanks to everyone that helped along the way. Joe

  • Congratulations on this set. Not an easy one these days especially.
Best of luck on the upgardes. I have been in that mode about two years with limited sucsess.
The cards do come up but can be very pricey.

Wanted: Bell Brands FB and BB, Chiefs regionals especially those ugly milk cards, Coke caps, Topps and Fleer inserts and test issues from the 60's. 1981 FB Rack pack w/ Jan Stenerud on top.

Fuzz, Thanks. I know you know how difficult but fun it is to build that set. My upgrades will be 7's to 8's and better centered 8's. I'm going to focus on my 60 Fleer set, but will not be focusing on a GPA for it. Centered 5's thru 8's with PSA 5's with surface wrinkles at a premium.

BTW, I had the #1 63 Bills set for minute. I wonder who passed me? FEAR the FUZZ. image

I saved the best for last? You mean I was too cheap to buy them till now.image

Joe, I had the chance to pick them both up and couldn't pass it up. As you know
both are HOFer's and both are rookies. With out those two cards, the set was
really bare. It's a beatiful set and my 2nd all time favorite behind the 66 Topps
    football set.
I had to sell my T206 SGC 40 Cobb Ghost back, but I think it's worth it as these
HOFer rookies just continue to spark interest in the registry. I'll replace the Cobb
eventually for my T206 set. Hated to let it go but there was a method to this
madness we call a hobby. More like an obsession.
Heres a scan of the Dawson.

Congrats--all the early Fleer fb sets are tough--63 included. The Buonoconti in 8 is especially tough.

Thanks Jim, The congrads means alot coming from you. You did contibute to the completion with the purchase of your PSA 7 checklist a few years back. This board is a great place as collectors do help each other find cards they need. I can't name everyone that has help along the way, but they know who they are. Joe

  • Joe,
This Fear the Fuzz thing is way over blown. I think I got a couple of PSA 4 commons or something from Skinsfan at the last second one time. Other than that, he always wins. Just a deception campaign. I've even read about the top three 66 Topps FB sets that he owned. The guy is an absolute animal.
On that 63 Fleer Bills set, it will save you from being MOSH'd, Dav'd, MVan'd or the like. One of them would have registered sooner or later (and probably still will and crush us both).

Fuzz, I was only playing with ya. I only collect Fleer football in slabbed form and every time I go to my set, there is the Fuzz man on top. But a recent development has seen a changing of the guard, if only for a moment. I never will worry about the top awards. I just collect what I like and a grade I can afford. Really pleased with the grade of this set. But I will watch for further development at the top of the 63's.

collecting RAW Topps baseball cards 1952 Highs to 1972. looking for collector grade (somewhere between psa 4-7 condition). let me know what you have, I'll take it, I want to finish sets, I must have something you can use for trade.

looking for Topps 71-72 hi's-62-53-54-55-59, I have these sets started

  • Congrats. Feels great to make it to that finish lineimage

  • Joe,
This is all in fun all the time. I was trying to elicit a reaction from Skinsfan but no such luck.
Fleer has never been a strong suit of mine and will not be in the future. Nearmint and Wolfbear have strangle holds on most of the sets. I hope to build to a top 5 set over time in each of the years. I have been holding that first place for Mark until he got there. Two years ago it was apparent that he had a lot of tens and was compliling nines. His set would eventually pass mine. Common 9's have been over $300 as of late with 10's in the 62/63 Fleers over $1K. Personally I just won't pay that much for them. Too many other interests.
My real hobby goals are just to harrass the mighty Skinsfan and have my set listed higher than Shouldabeena's on any set where the cards have square corners.
    Also you looking for 61's?

Yea, It's great to have such friends in high places. image. Mark also helped me along the way as he was actually the first to contact me when I registered the set back in 2000, welcoming me to the registry and offering all kinds of help on the set. He help me recongnize the really rare cards in the set and I also purchased a few of his cards when he upgraded.

1961 Fleers? I'm always in the market. I would like to have the full run eventually in no particular order and in no particular hurry now that I have the 63 done. Drop me a PM or e-mail at twodueces22@yahoo.com.
