Does the PGA tour play on any public golf courses or are they all private clubs?

Can a mere member of the general public play on the same course as Tiger Woods etc.? image

    Several courses are public.

For an arm and a leg you can play Pebble Beach. Most notably though is the one course that hosted the U.S. open that is truly a 100% public facility is Bethpage black. For around $50 you can play there anytime you want. It is an amazing test of golf that everyone who gets to NY should give a shot at.

Golf is unique in this sense. In no other sport can you compare your skills to that of the professionals you watch.

Yes they play on public courses. Tiger won the 2002 US Open at Bethpage, a public course in Farmington NY.

It's not like the tour always plays on the best golf courses. A number of clubs don't want the tour on their course because the pros tear the heck out of a golf course, plus the crowds doing damage, etc.

The Western Open used to be at Cog Hill, Lemont IL, Chicago suburb, great public course with several other easier links as well.

The Shell Houston Open is played on a private course, Redstone Golf Course.

While you don't have to be a member of The Houstonian, you get discounts by being an all inclusive member. I think initiation dues are only $25K, so it's not like a super-duper snooty swank club. Don't get me wrong, there are a few but overall, it's a good natured atmosphere.
