World set 1910 - Calling (country) experts

Hi All,

I have decided to attempt a world year set focusing on 1910. (Intially, I wanted to find a date in the 1908-1916 range that covered as many countries as possible, then narrowed it down to 1908-1913 to get a pre-WWI set. 1910 seems to be the best year overall, even if you lose about 25 issuing authorities that issued coins in the 1908-1913 period, although not in 1910).

Going through Krause (what tedious work!), I compiled this list of about 250-300 coins struck/dated 1910 (not including gold, pure commems or proofs, I am a bit unsure of how to handle undated coins, though). Anyway see below for a list. Have I left anything out?

I think you got all of the German ones. By picking 1910, you missed a bunch of hard German coinsimage3Mark

Japan is complete. There were no ¥1 coins minted that year, and nothing larger was minted during the Meiji Emperor's reign.

I have been collecting "sixty ones" for a couple of years now: coins dated 1961, 1861, 1761, 1661, etc. I never expect to complete that set, naturally, but it's a pleasing way to add some focus to an otherwise unfocused collecting habit....!

And yes, 1961 is my birthyear....

Thanks for your comments. Once I an well underway with this set (say, 75% complete), I might also try 1930 (and then 1950, 1970, 1990 and, by then, 2010 or even 2030...).

Most of the 1910s are quite affordable in decent circulated quality, I find. There are some quite expensive ones, though, like Italian Somaliland, Liechtenstein 5 fr and some others.

By the way, I once also thought about going for a bith year set down the centuries (1972, 1872, 1772 and so on), but never got around to it.
