Pricey Bi-metallic £2 ... first MS-70?

Just a little bit over face value ...

2001 GREAT BRITAIN 2 POUND MS-70 PCGS SOLO FINEST

Fun part will be seeing if anybody actually thinks the coin is worth the asking price.

I saw the 2 pound and I was thinking gold...and even then I'd rather settle for an MS-69...wow! I think I'll watch that auction to see how it goes...

  • I suggest you make him an offer just a little bit over face value ...

Seriously, where do you suppose these two (MS69 and MS70) came from when your PCGS registry states 0 population higher?

The POP report for the 2001 Marconi ... which is what he is selling ... shows:

    MS 65 - 1
    MS 66 - 1
    MS 67 - 0
    MS 68 - 0
    MS 69 - 5
    MS 70 - 1

I made the MS 65 and MS 66 ones during my submissions over the past few years. I haven't put any of the extra coins I have out in my set registry mainly because after asking repeated times, PCGS does not seem interested in expanding the UK registry sets any time soon to include room to display all the 50 pence or £2 commems let alone the transition pieces for the 5 pence, 10 pence, and 50 pence.

I was planning on checking Spinks and offering 4x the book value listed for the MS example. If the seller quibbles over the offer, it will be time to point out how relatively quiet the UK decimal registry sets are ...
