Question about free gradings

I can get 3 free gradings for my Liberty Nickel registry but have a question about them. Are the gradings only for coins in that certain series? Is it meant for regrades? For some reason the wording on PCGS's website confused me about the free gradings. Any help regarding the process to get the free gradings and what the free gradings are limited to would be greatly appreciated!

The free gradings are for coins that are raw or in other holders that would/could go into your registry set if they were in PCGS holders. In your case they would have to be Liberty nickels.

Series specific. ie. any Liberty nickel.

edit - sorry this is so hard to read. i took the time to space the columns but when i submitted the post, all the damn spacing disappeared.

the free gradings only apply to coins in YOUR registry sets, as stated by bushmaster. if you are asking for a larger number of free gradings, ie: for multiple sets, pcgs will ask you how many gradings per invoice you want. you can do re-grades on pcgs coins, as well as crossovers, raw, etc. i was able to score a pile of free gradings when my 170 pc. jefferson nickel set got to the 90% completion mark. using the new registry system, i was able to add quite a few new sets using the same coins in each of the sets. here's my sets -

Set Name Composite Rank Grade Rating Completion Required Needed

    larrynj Jefferson Nickels Date Set, Circulation Strikes (1938-present) 8 67.50 67.50 100.00% 69 0
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1938-1964) 12 65.47 65.47 100.00% 71 0
    larrynj's fs 5c's Jefferson Nickels FS Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1938-1964) 12 67.07 67.07 100.00% 71 0
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1938-1964) 7 65.41 56.95 93.98% 83 5
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels FS with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1938-1964) 11 66.88 58.23 93.98% 83 5
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels, Circulation Strikes (1965-present) 4 65.86 65.86 100.00% 87 0
    larrynj fs 5c's II Jefferson Nickels FS, Circulation Strikes (1965-present) 10 67.52 67.52 100.00% 87 0
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1938-present) 4 65.63 65.63 100.00% 158 0
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels FS Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1938-present) 11 67.21 67.21 100.00% 158 0
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1938-present) 6 65.59 59.82 97.06% 170 5
    larrynj's fs 5c set Jefferson Nickels FS with Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1938-present) 10 67.07 61.20 97.06% 170 5
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels Basic War Set, Circulation Strikes (1942-1945) 21 68.00 68.00 100.00% 11 0
    larrynj Jefferson Nickels War Set with Vari , Circulation Strikes (1942-1945) 13 67.88 51.91 85.71% 14 2

an invoice was issued by pcgs for each set's free gradings, and i combined some freebies on a single invoice to save some shipping costs. others were split by the type of invoice i planned on submitting, ie: re-grades, raw, crossovers, etc. since the coins allowed are limited to the individual sets, it took a little planning prior to requesting the invoices.

It was my understanding that the submission had to be the same type.
In other words, all the coins submitted had to be raw for 'GRADING'; or PCGS for 'REGRADE'; or in another TPG for 'CROSSOVER'.
The submission could (should) not include a variety of submissions.

I'll try to find an email that mentions this.

    UPDATE:
    From the Registry Benefits page:

Free gradings are for coins within the set that has reached 90% completion. You should request your free gradings with the intent to either add or upgrade your set with the coins that are being graded for free. You cannot submit the same coin twice for free grades. All coins must be submitted at one time. If your set has reached 90% complete and you have not previously received free grading for this set, please contact setregistry@pcgs.com with your name, address and phone number. You will be sent by U.S. mail a submission form to be used exclusively for your free gradings. It is your responsibility to pay for postage and insurance.

    From an email:

****To redeem your free gradings, please return this e-mail with your name, address and phone number. You will be sent by U.S. mail a submission form to be used exclusively for these gradings.****

These items must be submitted together, under one choice of service type ("grading," "crossover," or "regrade") and the free grading applies to only items within the above listed set composition.

Note that free gradings do not have a guaranteed turnaround time. It is your responsibility to pay for postage and insurance, so be certain to include your credit card number or check when you submit your coins. You can mark the submission forms accordingly, depending on how many you choose to send in at once.

Please contact me if you have any further questions. Thanks for participating in the Set Registry!
