is paper loss on the back an automatic psa1?

I've been looking at a card all week, auction ends in an hour. Finally today I blew up the pics, edited them, found paper loss on the back. The seller denied it twice and then admitted it. Auction says check money order paypal funds transfer but not paypal credit card.

I still want the card, but if I send it in is it a 1 no matter what?

shows the only mention of paper-loss, in the grading-standards section.

I am sure I have seen some REALLY nasty scuffs on cards
    that were not 1s, though.

Also, your seller's PayPal terms are a PP violation.

He has to take ALL forms of PP, or no PP.

I really do not like to buy stuff from people who
do not abide by the rules. It can mean they will
    cheat you.

I believe there is a type of seller account on paypal where the seller can not accept credit cards. I do not know why someone would set this type of account, but there is a type of account.

I have a 1969 Mickey Mantle WL which is gorgeous (should be an 8) and has MINOR paper loss on the back and got a 4. So it isn't necessarily a 1, but they do downgrade a bunch.

I have a few cards with paper loss that are 2's and 3's. Paper loss doesnt neccessarily mean a 1.

    Yup.

    It is a "personal account."

You cannot sell with any PP account on EBAY that does
NOT accept all forms of payment that are processed by PP.

They force you to open a Premier or Business Account.

Use of an exclusionary PP account is an EBAY violation.

of course not. grading is inherently very subjective.

I'm glad to hear that. I know they're rare but I didn't like that the seller was hiding the paper loss. Thanks for posting this image

  • If front is presentable definately doesn't have to be a 1. I have a few like this. This one has a nice front, would probably be a 5 if not for the paperloss on the back.

You are correct but if a Buyer uses a CC you have to accept it.

  • Paper loss doesn't mean it's a 1. It's definitely downgraded, but I've had a lot of 3's and 4's come back that are really nice cards and just have a hint of paper loss on the back. You gotta take the whole card into account. If it's really nice in all other aspects and has minor paper loss, it's going to get downgraded but it's not going to kill the grade, especially if it's a t-card or goudey.
