What is the average amount of time...

you would wait to file a NPB on eBay if you had sent a reminder invoice and then a few days later just short message asking if the winner was still interested in buying the item in the auction and heard nothing back. The winner has also been hyper active (I did a search by bidder) so I would think they would have seen the message I sent on eBay but still nothing received back.

If you didn't put a time limit in the auction (always a good idea), I'd probably wait 21 days.

  • I am not really concerned with the time in itself I just would like to know if the person still wants it. I have had one winner email me and tell me they had something come up and they would pay in 2 to 3 weeks. OK fine by me no problem, just communicate is all. I would prefer to be able to relist the item and a simple note would be nice. Perhaps I am expecting too much but I always pay within 24 hours of winning an auction. The reason I am asking is because this was a BIN auction and I would think the person had intentions of getting the item. 21 days seems a little long with no communication especially when the person has bid on over 35 auctions since pressing the BIN button on my auction.

Expensive BINs should usually use the "immediate payment required" feature.

EBAY thinks folks should pay within 7-days.

I would file a NPB about 30-days after the "sale."

Send "The Villian" to his house.

Sadly the Villian is only about a foot and half tall and while he thinks he the big man on the block he still ducks down on the floor in front of the storm door when he sees a squirrel in the yard. Quite sad actually.

I don't put a payment time limit in my auctions but also use the 21 day rule (though nearly all bidders pay within 10 days). I usually resend the invoice after 7-10 days and then put in the NPB after about three weeks if there is no communication. This is rarely a problem for me. Perhaps one in 200 transactions at most. Ironically when I do have a NBP more often than not when the item is relisted is sells for more. I just had a buyer who had several recent non paying negs pay just as I was ready to send the NPB. I was hoping he wouldn't pay since I recently sold another copy of the card for $10 more.

  • The buyer's feedback should factor into the process also. If the buyer has negs because of no payment or a false positive feedback claiming the buyer took a long time to finally make the payment, I'd cut him very little slack (especially if the buyer isn't responding to invoices and emails)
It could be an oversight on the buyer or he may be waiting on a payment to come in before paying you. Solid feedback, but sometimes slow payer, I'd work with him. Weak feedback with a history of slow/no payments, light a fire under his a$$ w/ an NPB after 10 days.

Contact Buyer and send him another message, something like this,

"Greetings! Normally, if I do not receive payment from a Buyer within 10 days, I would report them to ebay. But before I report you to ebay as a "Non-Paying Bidder", based on you great feedback, I wanted to give you another chance, and "hold-off" a little longer, say for another 48 hours, to give you the opportunity to pay me. I do hope do to hear from you soon? Sincerely, Bob"

I normally wait 7 days before sending the reminder email from ebay and I usually follow up with an invoice. After 10 days, if I've heard nothing, I'll send an email. I usually follow up again after 14 days if I haven't received payment or communication from the buyer. After that, depending on the amount or the timing of the item (ie it's a really hot player or something) then I'll send the NPB email via ebay. I figure if I haven't heard anything after 14 days, I'm probably not going to hear anything after 21 or 30 so might as well get the process started.
