Please help find the stain

84D Mattingly
The white dot on his cheek is not on the card. I know I am fairly new to this whole grading thing so maybe I don't know what they consider a stain to be.

I'd check the back as well.

Probably a wax stain on the back.

I didn't include this pic the 1st time because I was pretty sure there is no stain here.

You can't always see a wax stain. Sometimes you can only feel it, and sometimes somebody tried to wipe it off and there is only a slightly shiny gloss.

Gum stain thru the "career highlights" description on the back is my guess. If you blow up the pic, use a high pass filter on it and then invert the colors there's a difference in the colors between the career highlights section and the similar type up above that.

The front pic doesn't work so I can't do the same to the front.

I've used that system for stains before and it's pretty reliable.

  • Do you think my grader did all that to find a stain that is more than slight ?

They probably didn't do all that, but if the grader felt the roughness of the leftover gum parts he can look for a stain and call it a stain. You can't feel the gum parts now, because it's in a slab. I did all that because I can't feel it either, but with enough editing I can maybe "see" it.

    Just trying to help.

  • Thank you for your insight. I was just venting on getting a qualifier on what I thought was a pretty nice card. Thanks again.

  • Maybe you need a black light to find the stain.....gives new meaning to PSA/DNA!
