1964 TOPPS GIANTS BRINKMAN-HOW TOUGH?

looking for help from 64 Giants collectors: How tough is the Ed Brinkman in PSA 9? This set was among the hottest in high grade a few years ago but has cooled considerably on this board.
I remember Brinkman being among the toughest to find centered in high grade. Does anyone who follows the set have a current pop report in 9? I'm considering picking one up if price is right.

Thanks,
Mike

Hate to sound like an old fart but I remember when those guys that had ads in The Sporting News (Fritsch, Woody Gelman, etc) were selling these for about $3-5 a set.

Moose, I must be older too because I remember getting them at Dodger Stadium in the mid/late 70's in packages of 25 for $1. Short prints in the same quantity as regulars. At one point we all had stacks of them the size of cinderblocks, and used them for slalom cones for skateboarding one day.

Brinkman is one of the toughest in PSA 9, IMO. The last card I found, and felt pretty lucky. Romano was next toughest. Some of the SP's were not that tough- Causey, Cisco, etc. although Boyer certainly was.
I'm not sure the pops are good on this set, as I know of a few people that continually crack and resubmit- 10's and some 9's can bring serious money, and most 8's and below are relatively worthless.
I also think there must be huge stashes of these, so I"m not sure paying a lot for a low pop is a wise idea. There is one guy that was trying to corner the market on these in order to drive the price up, but it appears he was in way over his head.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • thanks for the responses. I'm surprised there are 23 graded 9s, given the centering issues typically associated with the brinkman. Maybe I'll just sit on my psa8 for a while. Still love the set _ and the star 9s still seem to do well despite rising pops.
