Is this for REAL?

Look at the closing price on the Q. David Bowers DELUXE Leather bound edition of - A California Gold Rush History

that just sold on the recent Stack's auction.

This is the same EXACT book I bought BRAND NEW from a seller on the bay a few weeks ago for $150

Can you believe this?

I'd be selling my copy so quickly, you would think I was possessed by the exorcist's linda blair!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

And to think I got laughed at in Longacre's thread when I said the normal book sells for $200-$300 and thought one of these would go for $500+ I was a little off with the + eh? image

drddm, if you have a link to your purchase, I'd certainly give you a "You Suck".

I can't post a link for some reason but I did copy it.

OK, now I'm confused. This one just ended Sunday on eBay for $621.57 (Think that was the relist of the one Longacre asked about) Link

    You got #179 for $150
    #191 went for $621
    #392 went for $5,200

Is there some difference or significance of the higher #'s?

I had to go searching for the official "You Suck" rules, and can't seem to find any, but outhaul mentions you have to be in the YS club to give a YS, so I can't give you one.

Speety sugests in a recent post: "The guidelines are tightening up. Profits have to be over $1000 for an official you suck IMHO" the Stacks sale certainly supports it, but the eBay sale Sunday suggests otherwise. I will defer to Russ for a ruling here. image It's a great pick-up no matter what you call it though IMO.

Aaah, yes, but you see, the one that sold for $6K was QDB's personal copy.

    And he signed it.

And tucked rare UNC National banknotes between all the pages. image

Auctions are crazy places......While the book is no doubt a great book, I do not think its worth what it brought at Stack's

I think we have to see another one sell at that value before a full fledged YOU SUCK!!!™ can be awarded. In the interim, this merits at least a You Suck Lite™.

    Russ,

What do you think about this as far as another high priced example of this book?

Remember, I bought mine for ONLY $152.70

Does this qualify for the full fledged YOU SUCK!!!!

I would say it definitely qualifies. I still don't know why this book would fetch so much $$$.
