EDITED THREAD TITLE: got ripped off on ebay???

Hi guys, can anyone offer me some advice on what i should do here.

I bought a card on ebay from a seller that seemed reputable. Turns out the card is a reprint.

The way his auction is set up leaves no question that it is a fraud and not a mistake.

The auction reads 14 day money back garanteed, no questions asked.

So any advice on where to start trying to get my money back?

What I mean is, should I report them, just ask for a refund or both???

I wanted to get some opinions before I do anything.

Thanks

It depends on if you want to "save the world" from this crook or just get your money back. I am guessing that you are considering the first part since you mention reporting him.

Personally, I would not care if he's a crook or if he scams someone else. I would want to get my money back first. Just ask him for a refund because you "believe" it is a reprint. Don't make any accusations or he will immediately become defensive.

I'd love to know what the card was and if this is a one time thing or a regular occurence.

This should just about give it away, it was an Orr.

I don't recall any threads on Orr reprints. I do know that the back of the card is almost white compared to a real one, and also the front is considerably lighter.

Whoever did this has smoked the back of the card or something???

But I did notice on all the reprint auctions that I looked at... there is a printing defect on the reprints. It seems to be on all of them.

Here's a pic of the dot above the e, found on the reprint.

I really am just worried about my money, if I can get that back... maybe then I'll play crusader. image

    Ask for a refund.

If it was a PayPal tranny, they can make you
    "prove" the card is fake.

Do NOT mention "feedback" in your refund request.

The chance of finding expensive cards raw/cheap on EBAY
    is ZERO.

    Thanks for the advice fellas.

Storm, I know the chance is zero, it just seems like every so often I do something really stupid. image

I asked the guy for a refund, now to wait and see what he says???

Thanks. In the 2 auctions where I bought a counterfeit I had 2 different result. In the first I never got my money back. In the second, I got my money back. I have to say that getting your money back certainly feels better than not getting your money back. Either way you can still play crusader and use the experience to help others.

Well, I feel like the seller won't be getting back to me any time soon.

Here's a link to the auction, but before you go in... ya, I'm a dummy Fake Orr

I opened a dispute with him, left this message. Not sure who this is for??? Does just the seller read it or does ebay see it also?

"Auction was set up as a fraud. The Orr card in question should have been real, but it is actually a reprint worth one dollar. Seller used another card from the real set, and damaged it in the same way the Orr card was damaged, in order to give the buyers confidence. Seller also stated that the card was real when asked by another ebayer. Within the auction description it states that a refund will be given, no questions asked, but now seller won't reply to my emails. Thanks for your time, Trent."

    Anyway, live and learn.

Thanks for the advice again guys.

With such ironclad proof and the fact that he offers a refund, Paypal will probably rule in your favor. They might ask you to file a police report or for the testimony from a reputable dealer that it is fake. I wouldn't worry too much about it, but it may take a while for them to close your case. My last one took about 40 days.

Friggin' Canucks. Just 'cause they can play hockey this gives them the right to sell counterfeit cards? image

Good luck with the dispute. Nail the bastidge. High stick him then take back your money.

The Orr is a widely reprinted card though isn't it?

I'm not certain this is a scam , perhaps the seller is just ignorant. In any case best of luck in being made whole on this Trent.

Yup, those rotten stinking Canadians, grrr. image

No, the seller is not ignorant, but he wants me to believe he is.

We've been going back and forth a little today, I sent the card back and so on...

Now he's emailing me to whine about how I seized up his pay pal account. It seems like he's building me up to remove the dispute so he can pay pal me the refund. I'm sure he will ask, and when he does I'll escalate the dispute.

40 days, here I come, lol
