NEWP

It's been a while since I've bought anything...
I've always wanted one of those satirical hobo 10 centimes that were cranked out after Louie's ugly defeat at Sedan. It always seems, though, that the nice ones I want always pop up when I can't afford them! Well, this isn't a hobo, it's a satirical token, 1 centime size. Which makes it all the better for me! I love small copper/bronze coins

Napoleon III was widely ridiculed for his incompetent handling of the Austrian issue and his starting the Franco-Prussian War. He was captured on the battlefield at Sedan in 1870.
The obverse shows him wearing a Pickelhaube (the spiked helmet associated with the Prussians) and a collar around his neck reading Sedan. Pretty blunt imagery!
The reverse reads: "French Empire, founded by the crime and felled by the cowardice" 2 December 1851 was the date of his coup, 2 September 1870 the date of his capture.

<< <i>is it known who minted these? >>
Honestly, I don't have a clue! I'm sure many were made in Paris, and I've heard some were made in Belgium. But I've never heard any solid reporting on who made these. There are really quite a few variants on this theme, the 10c being the most popular. Some were machine made, others stamped onto circ coins, and then the hobos. There were even some made in silver up to 5Fr size.
I should also add, I don't know how I forgot it in the OP, the phrase Napoleon le Petit was made famous by Victor Hugo. It was the title of a pamphlet that he wrote against Louis while exiled in Guernsey. Hugo was friendly prior to the coup, but from that day he declared Nappy an undemocratic traitor.
