Nice Bench RC - What happened to other guy?

Here's a nice PSA 8 OC Bench RC that I'd love to have. But it's already over my limit so I'll sit on the sidelines and watch.

Meanwhile I got to thinking about the other guy on the card - Ron Tompkins. What ever happened to him?

Well... Not much according to the Baseball Almanac. According to BA, Tompkins' rookie year was in '65 with the Kansas City Athletics - which would explain why he's wearing green on a Reds card. He was a reliever who pitched a total of 50 innings for the A's in '65 and the Cubs in '71.

While cardmate went on to be one of the greatest in the game, he didn't - but he evidently
did throw a submarine ball.

He probably received a stack of the 68 rookie cards from Topps, kept them tucked away in gem mint condition, sold them at the peak of the card craze in '90, and is now living a life of luxury on an island in the Pacific.
