sooo, HCG Heritage Coin Grading services sucks

Im sure all of you "pros" already know that though. Im putting together a 2007 birthyear set for my unborn baby girl (due in September) and i want all the 2007 denoms in plastic (dont care about the grade really) because this is my first child and i want to preserve the set for her. Anyway, i won an MS70 2007-P jefferson on ebay and it just arrived today. I already had a good idea that HCG blows by reading all of the post on here about HCG SGS etc..etc.. The coin i got was not an ms70 by anyones standards. ITs more like a 60, hell it may not even grade at pcgs. It was a cheap coin and im not really complaining about the grade, more like the integrity of the jackass grading them. Sorry that you had to read my rant, its just sickening that people can actually sleep at night knowing that they are decieving people. If anyone on here has any cheap 2007 slabbed coins they are willing to part with please let me know. Dont care about the grade, i can always upgrade later, i just want it finished before my baby arrives. Thanks for lending your eyes.

How about just buying a 2007 Mint Set and submitting the coins to PCGs...

Want to buy an auction catalog for the William Hesslein Sale (December 2, 1926). Thanks to all those who have helped us obtain the others!!!

  • well LucyBop that is a good idea except im not currently a member of the collectors club and i dont know of any dealers in my area that i trust. I do plan on getting a 2007 mint set when they come out so i might convince my wife that i NEED to become a member....for the baby!!

    Lucy's idea works.
Maybe look at NGC multicoin slab (looks cool, imho, for a birthyear set).

Or, I will PM you a photo of a DIY slab....I've done a few of these as "thank yous" to people and also as gifts (birthyear set for my mother, set of franklins of the kids & grandkids for my mother, etc).

The coins get in plastic, I don't pay a slabbing fee. I get to choose coins I think look nice.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I like Bochiman's idea...ngc multi slab for the birth year

If one goes back and looks at the quality of coins once put out by NCI, this should come as no shock. That was the first 3rd tier slab service imo and it came about in the 1980's. Oops....almost forget ACG. They were first I think.

Since you don't care about the grade, why don't you just get a mint set and a snap-together multi-coin holder for the coins?
  • i like the idea of the multi coin holder and the mint set...i think i will research that option, Thanks for all the great ideas, and i appreciate the offer LucyBop.

I'd just buy a mint set and/or proof set and keep them in the original packaging. Maybe another set to put into one of those photo frames.

That seems more appealing to me than 5 or 6 or 10 or however many coins are being issued this year, each one encased in its own separate slab.

And congrats on the impending arrival!!!

  • I agree with droopyd. If you don't care about grades, buy a mint set, or proof set, and keep it in the original packaging. Unless, of course, you MUST pay a TPG for their services.
