phillip hughes

hello everyone i am pretty new here..i have been reading a lot of post here and there are a lot of experienced collectors on this site..anyway my thing is..i started collecting hughes rookie auto's ect..i think he could be pretty big..as i am sure everyone else thinks that to..my question is do you think he is a wise investment??? or is it risky...i know if your collecting cards for an investment it's all risky..but i have been looking for one player to focus my collection on and i was intrigued when i saw him pitch..(until he got injured lol)

I haven't followed new cards in ages, but my gut feeling is that phenom pitchers are probably the worst investment out there. I suppose one could do well if he or she has impeccable timing when it comes to buying and flipping, but I certainly wouldn't hold any young hurler as even a medium-range investment.

Welcome to the forum. Most people collect for the fun of it (favorite player or set ), others for the money. Some even do both. There is a lot of collectors here to help. Again, welcome.---Sonny

Historically investing in cards of young pitching prospects, especially hard throwing ones, has been a losing proposition. Every Rob Dibble is an elbow injury from becoming Randy Jones. Collect if you like the guy and wouldn't mind being stuck with the cards if the guy doesn't turn into the next Roger Clemens.

Even if they do pan out it seems that both "chicks" and card collectors dig the long ball more...

  • Hi,
I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a 05 Bowman (#151) Philip Huhghes Auto rookie card. My question is all of the 05 Bowman's I see on Ebay have a blue auto, mine is red. It is not numbered. I was wondering if anyone knew if this is a rarer version or a more common version.

    Thanks
