Hot RC - Tim Lincecum / Giants pitcher

Check out the spike on this card over the last few days. It's a Topps Finest redemption for the hot Giants rookie pitcher.
Finest redemption
He has 21 Ks in his first three starts, 10 in the last outing. They're comparing him to Roy Oswalt.
I picked up some Just Minors autos two weeks ago before his first start and saw the Finest redemptions earlier this week. Picked up four for what now is the cost of two.
I don't know if I should redeem the cards or just flip the redemptions.

Raw ownage of the minors. He doesn't ice his arm after games, and he's ready for a game after just 17 warm up pitches (Rags makes him do another 10 just to be safe). He looks like he's 16, and his wind up and throw looks like he's made out of rubber. The kid's a freak.
Maybe when Russ Ortiz comes back, instead of sending Tim back to Fresno, Russ can find new life in the bullpen.

In addition to the autos and redemptions I picked up 100 of his Just Minors cards for a good price.
Graphix - thanks for the tip. I delve into speculating on some RCs every so often. Maybe I'll look for some of his cards.
SI.com had an article last week on the best players under 25 years old. A few of those on the list have RCs that are at a decent price. Hanley Ramirez for example. McCann and Cain are also cheap at the moment.

<< <i>I bought 2007 Bowman Chrome based upon his auto being in the product. I assume if he has one there, he won't be in BCDP. He has an autograph in that TriStar product that came out several months ago. If he only has signatures in that 06 product and the 07 BC, which would be more desirable? >>
I'll bet that if he has an auto in Bowman Chrome that will wind up going for more than the TriStar. At the moment though the TriStar and Just Minors are his only autos out there I think.
Surely the first one or two big name company autos will go for a good penny. That's why I think Topps announced that he would be their #4 Finest redemption last week, which caused the rush to buy the cards. There're putting out his card in Finest before Dice K.

He's on the Bowman Chrome checklist, but they have been know to "bait and switch". I don't think that most people will want the Finest, because it's not an autograph. That being said, redemption's that are redeemed, do have appeal. I think I might pick up a couple, if the prices fall.

<< <i>When did topps announce redemption #4? There is nothing about it on beckett.

<< <i>I'm a big Giants fan and watched his first and third starts. I've got to say, this guy is the real deal. He's going to be an absolute stud if he stays healthy. >>
While I agree the TL looks great, before you get too excited just two words of caution from your friends on the other side of the Bay...

<< <i>As a Dodger fan, living in Nor Cal, I have extra reasons to hope this guy is a bust like the many Giant's great prospects of the past. I won't name all the names but I still remember listing to a game on KNBR when Mark Gardner was a rookie. Might have been his first game. He mowed them down that day and looked like he was heading to the HOF, if you listended to the Giant's announcers, but alas he's not in the HOF of course. >>
Mark Gardner wasn't a Giants rookie. He signed as a free agent with SF back in 96. He played for the Expos and Marlins previously.
Perhpas you were thinking about Shawn Estes?

My bad. Maybe it was Estes. Point is, he was a bust.
Maybe the Giants farm system's on a 45 year rotation or something.

I think if you're going to get lincecum rookies, you'll have to do it now. Pitchers rarely maintain value, even when they turn out to be Cy Young candidates (see Oswalt, Halladay). So, there's only a short period of time where you can get his rookie card and sell it for a considerable profit. See zach duke and liriano as perfect examples. I think lincecum will be very good, but i dont think his cards will sky rocket in value in the long haul.

6 innings
7 hits
1 earned
2 BBs
10 Ks
left with a 2-1 lead (so could go to 6-1)
can't they just call him up
