Actually, Beckett did a hobby 101 article about shrinkwrapping. For example, the author (Don Loving) saw a stack of shrinkwrapped 1984 Donruss factory sets, despite the fact Donruss would not shrinkwrap their sets until 1991. So the sets were, in his words, either shrinkwrapped to keep the set pristine, or more likely, to disguise problems inside. The moral is to find out how sets/wax boxes and such were sealed for that year/brand.
