RIP Ivan Calderon. I remember when he was murdered the spanish stations showed overly graphic photos of his body. One of my favorite players as a child.

He was a very good player. It must have been tough to play pro ball and be the bad guy in Miami Vice at the same time. Not much time for the family.

I grew up watching Rob Deer with the Brewers. It was either a HR or a strikeout for him. I bet he finished his career with more K's than hits.

    Rob Deer:

    Hits - 853
    K's - 1409

    A note on Rob Deer - striking out more than getting a hit isn't terribly uncommon - Reggie Jackson, Jim Thome, Jose Canseco have done it. However Rob Deer;

    853 hits
    1409 k's

that almost TWICE as many k's as hits.

Truly in a league of his own. image

Someone should have put together a team of guys like Rob Deer just to see what would happen. They would score an average of 8 runs per game- all from solo HRs. Fielding would probably be pretty bad I guess, but wouldn't you love to see a lineup of Deer, Fielder, Kingman, Darrell Evans, Albert Belle, Greg Vaughn, Mo Vaughn, Dave Parker, and Jay Buhner?

I don't think Belle was that bad of a hitter. He usually had a pretty good Avg. and didn't strike out all that much. Certainly not in the realm of Deer or Kingman.

    I'd replace him with Canseco

  • Rob Deer hit the farthest home run I've ever witnessed in my life.

As a member of the AAA Tucson Toros, Deer's moonshot cleared a 400-foot fence AND a massive 50-foot Toro atop a scoreboard behind the wall.

Looked kind of like a beer league softball player out there. Shirt unbuttoned halfway down, wristbands up to his elbows, five days of growth on his face.

No, Canseco was too fast. Let's take Belle out and throw in Tom Brunansky or Bobby Bonilla.

Hey Lee, Dave Parker was real good, and a batting champ.

.290 lifetime, and over 2700 hits.

Wasn't there a year when Kingman hit 40+ homers and only had about 10 doubles?

How can you leave Adam Dunn off the swing from the heels team? I am too lazy to look at his numbers for this season but I know he has a lot of Ks

No there was not, you Kingman hater. I grew up idolizing those Kong bombs, so can we please stop trashing him? image

Albert Belle was one hell of a hitter. he really could do it all; injuries cut short a def. HOF career.

I was just looking at a stack of 87' Kelly Gruber cards lol. he was pretty decent for the jays.
  • Dave Kingman... should definitely be on the team image

OK, ok, Parker and Belle are off. Tettleton is a great addition, and we'll go with "Bye Bye" Balboni. Quite a team we're building.

We'll use Incaviglia as a pinch hitter.

This game reminds me of the old Nintendo Ice Hockey game where you could choose whether your players are fat, medium, or skinny. This would be like using a team of all fat guys.

Buhner and Parker (in his prime) were excellent fielders. Matt Stairs might make this team though...

I loved him as a ball player in two sports, but Bo Jackson struck out an awful lot, too.
