What should I do with these cards?

I just started to break up my collection of baseball, football, basketball and hockey. I decided to break it up into player lots and have posted a few to my ebay store. However, should I bite the bullet and submit them to PSA in hopes of a crap load of PSA 10s? Would the market be better for the following player lots if graded PSA 8/9 and 10. All of the cards were pulled from packs and placed in top loaders and have been sitting in my closet for years.

Here is a sample of my lots.

Derek Jeter

I aslo have player lots of Clemens, Ichiro, Pujols, Ryan, McGwire, Bonds, Rodriguez, Piazza, Jones, Sosa, Garciaparra, Thomas, Ramirez, Ripken, Griffey and many more that I need to post. I know that I'll never get the BV so I'm only asking a fraction of BV. What would you do? Have them graded or sell the lots?

Thanks for your help. Rich

I did that recently and sold a lot of player lots. Honestly it's a lot of work for little money. Most players get from 5-10 cents a card. Jeter is actually one of the better ones but your still only looking at about 30-40 cents a card. I just sold a lot of 268 Eddie Murray cards for 99 cents plus shipping.

Grading them is tricky on most players. If you could get 100% PSA 10's then it's worth it. But, back to the real world, that won't happen. You will probably lose money on your 9's for modern stuff so it's really just a numbers game, can the $10 PSA 10's outsell the $2 PSA 9's to make it profitable. It's a tough game.

Great post. It's also worth noting that virtually all post-1990 cards of HOFers in any sport sell for about $10 these days in PSA 10 (this doesn't include scarce inserts and parallels), which is a far cry from the $20-$30 that many of these cards sold for as recently as six months ago.

Also, I think you'll be able to count yourself as very fortunate if you are able to get $200 for that lot of Derek Jeters.
  • $185....I would be more than shocked if you got that for these cards. You can piece a lot like this on Naxcom or Sportslot for under 25 bucks...maybe cheaper.

The market just isn't there for these cards.
