Here are a couple of 1 oz. coins I picked up at the San Francisco International Coin Expo in 1987 and 1988. The images are courtesy of Bruce Lee.

I like the dragon on the lower coin. There has been a program on Discovery (or another type channel) as of late that tells about the dragon in different cultures. There was a neat segment on the oriental dragons.

The Coin Show Pandas are a sleeper series (IMO). Not too many are aware/collect them. Mintages are 500 - @ 5,000 (I think one has a 10,000 mintage) and yet can be had on eBay with not much premium. image

Nice coins. I don't know much about Panda coins, but apperntly there are a lot of fake panda coins about. Is this rumor true?

Thanks for the nice comments folks.

I bought the Panda at the 1987 show from a licensed Panda dealer, so I don't expect any chicanery with it. I actually bought 2 of them, and about 10 years ago I sold the other one. At that point in time neither of them had copper spotting, so it is somewhat frustrating to think that the other one still doesn't have spotting while this one does. Of course, the other one could have even worse spotting, so who knows. 1988 was the year of the Dragon, hence the design on the second coin.
