Anyone open any 1979 Baseball Cello packs lately or ever?

I've been contemplating picking some up, and have a few questions for some of the experts here. It's not authenticity im worried about since the source is A1, its the contents. Here are some of my questions/concerns in no particular order:

With the gum being in the center of the pack (i think as a 12 yr old boy thats where I remember it being) how many cards are affected? I know the two it touches for sure, but has anyone experienced any gum bleeding through to more than those 2 cards?

With the tight wrapping of the cellos, how have the corners held up on the first and last cards, and if bad on those 2, what about the corners on the cards in between the first and last cards?

I believe that there are 16 cards inside so if im losing 2 to gum issues and 2 to wrapping issues, we're talking about 25% of the cards being less than desireable.

Fire away guys. Talk me into it, or talk me out of it. Thanks

rack and wax are the best for gradable cards. I know many here dont like vending but I have had some personal excellent luck with vending.

I stay far away from cello because they are usually too tightly wrapped and at least the top three and bottom three cards have some kind of corner damage.
  • I didn't have any luck with the 79 cellos I opened several years ago, the corners were wrapped pretty tight. I did have better luck with some 82 cellos, some of those weren't wrapped as tight.

Estil, thanks for the input, but what did that have to do with 1979 Baseball Cellos?

I believe there are 18 cards in a 1979 cello pack (I know there are 21 in a 1978 pack, so I believe Topps kept the 30 cents price and reduced the card count back down to 18 cards which is also how many cards were in a cello from 1975-1977). Cellos from 1979 are tightly wrapped (unlike 1980 cellos where many were loosely wrapped so you could pull some sharp-cornered cards), so I'm not sure that would be your best bet in the way of pulling mint cards.
