Mintages/Research for kookaburras?

This is my first post to the international board so I'd better warn you I know nothing about international coins. I am interested in getting involved in some modern series, though, and was thinking about the silver kookaburras. Is there a place on-line where I can research mintages of these and other nice series from around the world? Also, how do people usually acquire these kinds of modern issues?
Thanks in advance!

I got a very pretty libertad from RNCHSN on these boards. I just bought a 2007 kook from him the other day and it should be here soon. He's got fair prices and he's been very easy to work with when I've bought from / sold to him.

I don't know about mintages, but this forum member is a popular seller! His profile doesn't show a recent log on so you should go through his website. It's not the most intuitive (for me). Click on on the order button, then click on a payment method to bring up the order form. He is highly recommended by many image

Hey Thanks Everyone! I appreciate all the info. Anyone who is collecting these, I'd also be interested to know just what you think about them, how they're viewed in the collector world, that sort of thing. Or any other modern series you just think is cool and why. I've been far too obsessed with U.S. Mint products!

I second the recommendation of Ron Chiasson ("RNCHSN") as a good, reasonable source of silver bullion coins. I have done business with him several times and he's topnotch.

PS- Kooks are cool. Their frosted "reverse cameo" looks are always nice. They're usually one of the first coins of the new year out, too- like the car models, you can get the next year's coins ahead of time. For example, I got some fresh, new 2006-dated coins from Ron in the winter of 2005, which makes them ideal for Christmas or New Year's gifts. Pretty much anyone, collector or not, can appreciate the eye appeal and the hefty silver of a Kookaburra, and if they get one the year before the coin is actually dated, it is a conversation piece for a month or two.

I just started the silver kookaburras. I have the 05 and 06.

I got into these because I fell in love with the Australian Lunar series, (which I
just completed in a nice presentation case)

The Lunar was a natural progression into the kookaburras for me.

Did the Perth Mint discontinue the Kookaburras now that they have switched over to Silver Koalas (triggered by the discontinuation of the Platinum Koalas)? Or am I mistaken?

    GritsMan,

Alrighty then, the Australia silver Kookaburra series started in 1990 and (based from feedback) ended 2006. So you only have to work with issues from 1990 - 2006.

    Enjoy.

Groovy! Too bad, though. You couldn't pick a more interesting bird to feature on a coin.

HMMMM, Kelley's Coins lists a 2007 Kookaburra. I wonder if the Perth Mint plans to issue them side by side with the Koala.

  • Asking Perth Mint for clarification of issues.
  • Perth Mint says they are continuing with Bullion Kookaburra issues, the same design will feature on all sizes of bullion coins, the Koala Series will have proofs and carded Unc issues.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea the Kooks were sticking around. I would not thought to go looking for one this year.
