Empty Wax boxes for sale

Is there that much of a market for empty wax boxes? $427 with over 2 days left.

I ran across this auction and I assume the bidders are not reading the listing.

clearly says:

"THIS AUCTION IS FOR AN AWESOME (37) TOPPS BASEBALL EMPTY WAX BOX COLLECTION FROM 1977-1985!!!"

From that era? I'd doubt there's much investor value in it.

Gary is probably the high bidder.

Generally, there wouldn't be much of a market for such a collection, but this is an "awesome" collection, which will really drive the price.

Thus the beauty of EBay's new system of "protecting" user's IDs.

Gary is probably the high bidder.

For some reason I had a feeling there would be a few "Gary" replies on this one!
  • While I can totally understand the fear of resealers buying these, I have to point out that they are collectors items to a certain extent. In trying to put together complete, paged sets of OPC, I also include in the binder with the cards a folded down box (flattened and slipped into a full sized pocket page) as well as all wrapper variations and one unopened pack for each year. Still, I've never paid more than five bucks for an empty box, so that is a bit surprising.

I have a problem with this lot.

It's going way too high IMO - it looks like some nefarious activities will be forthcoming?

The resealers are getting more and more brazen these days. Check out this guy who started selling "unopened" packs and check out his feedback as a buyer.

I must be feeling frisky today, because I sent that seller an ebay message about his 1978 wax pack and the ebay buying history that he has. I made zero implications, just the fact that folks on message boards have noticed this and a question that it would look suspicious.

I wish I could see his face when the pennies drop for him when he realizes how dumb this looks, whether he did anything or not.
    Enjoy your collection!

  • I did the same. No implications. Just wanted to know if he could guarantee it was an unopened pack.

Screw the no implications. Here's what I just sent:

"If you're going to buy near mint singles, wrappers and boxes, you should probably use a different eBay ID to sell your new packs.

    Just a thought."

Not only that but extremely wicked activities as well.
  • Someone should also point out to him that Alan Trammell isn't in the hall of fame.

There's something awfully familiar about his listings, too...
