Is there a weight difference in packs with game used items?

Back in 2001 I ran into a guy at Wal-Mart that was using a scale to locate Albert Pujols Rookies in Topps Chrome. He said that because of the lack of clear coat on the Pujols card (because of his late addition to the set) made it weigh less and, therefore, he could just purchase the packs with the Pujols card. I was just wondering if this same concept could be applied to memorbilia cards? Would these weigh more (or less) than a regular card? Has anyone ever tried it? And, most important, how big of a dork does this make one look if you are in Wal-Mart with a scale and weighing every pack? image

I would pay children a hefty sum to harass any dorky adult weighing or searching packs in a retail store. image

Not a dork but a fun sucking, money hungry jerk.

I actually have bought 2 "hot packs" online to see the surprise on my boys faces when they opened them so Im guily in aiding and inbedding but this is something many frown upon. I on occasion talk down to those I see doing it. So far no black eyes. image

...better than the jerks who used to actually BEND the packs in order to feel for the thicker jersey cards. Card companies fought that one by inserting thick cardboard blanks into packs.

one more reason to stick to sealed boxes and cases.

  • Would you weigh them at your local card shop? Probably not since you would likely either:

    1. probably get banned from the shop or

    2. You would not want to be thought of as the type of person who would do that type of thing by other collectors

So the question is... if you would not do it at the hobby store, why would it be OK at Walmart?

I hope it didn't sound like I have done this or plan to in the future. I was just curious. So far that guy in Wal-Mart is the only one I have ever seen to it and hopefully that doesn't happen as often as I think it probably does.

But here is the problem...those scumbags could care less what anyone else thinks because they have tunnel vision to having an advantage for the almighty dollar.

  • I've actually seen signs saying "no weighing packs" at local wal mart or kmart stores. I was surprised to see it because I can't see someone having the balls to take a little scale in there, sit on the floor and start weighing packs, but it was there. I guess I should have taken a picture. I don't think the big stores let you do that and I'm sure you'd be kicked out of a card shop.

Back in Houston in the early '90s there were a few different dealers that I knew of who used scales to cherry pick their own wax for inserts.
    Prost!

Why step over the dollar to get to the cent? Because it's a 55DDO.

    Because Walmart is evil.
But that still doesn't make it right.
