I'm thinking about doing an Ultra Gold Medallion set run; what should I do about the SP's though?

Okay, I already have the 1995 Ultra Gold Medallion (GM) set to start out with, and I was thinking about starting a run of GM sets, hopefully up to the present. The only problem is that from 1998 onward, Ultra started their whole SP's within the regular set gimmick. My question is, did they also make GM versions of the short prints each year or did they only do the regular SP cards? I'm also wondering if I should just get the GM sets w/o the GM short prints or as a compromise, get the standard issue SP's instead to go with the standard GM set. And some other questions:

In 2000 Ultra started doing diecut cards of the GM and Platnium Medallion cards; do they still do that?

Do they still do the 1/1 purple Masterpieces?

And last but not least, what is the going rate for these on Ebay (cuz I'm sure the Beckett prices aren't right)?

as you know, not many collect these sets. I would imagine that EBAY would offer all the answers for which you've posed a question.

Estil- Here are a few answers and tips:

In 2000 Ultra started doing diecut cards of the GM and Platnium Medallion cards; do they still do that?

    Yes, they do.

Do they still do the 1/1 purple Masterpieces?

    Don't know, but I don't think so.

And last but not least, what is the going rate for these on Ebay

Whatever you are willing to pay.

Bottom line, on these sets prices vary widely. You can pick up starter lots cheaply, but certain star cards and even obscure commons and RC's will cost you. I've seen many instances where a run of commons would go for .25 cents and than 1 card would go for $30.
I think your perception on these sets is a little skewed. I recall you bought an already collated Gold Medallion set in binders off Ebay for a very low price. Now you want to build the sets (which is great. they are really nice looking cards) at the same bargain price level. It may be possible, but you might have to wait months, if not years till another comes on Ebay.
Realistically, you will need to scour show tables, Ebay, websites as well as building a network of other collectors with the same interest.
Build the sets that you like at a price you can afford and you will not be dissappointed.

Hi, I just started collecting some of the tougher insert sets of the 90's (my criteria for an insert set is that it's not a paralell and does not have an auto or game used on it). The 1996 set has some really toughies in it with the Hitting Machines and Thunderclap sets. I believe the Hitting Machines gold medalions were 1 in 2880 packs. I will look and see what i have in my binders from those years, you only want gold medalion version right?

I'd guess these are cards that have a widely varied sale price. It's quite possible you'll get some for the minimum bid, or close to it, as no one else will know they're tough to find. However, some others will cost you quite a bit, as you come up against one other knowledgeable collector. I know I just won a 1996 Will Clark insert for a couple of dollars, but my snipe was around $20.

fabfrank hit the nail on the head. If you can't find a complete set, it's going to take some time to put it together, and will probably cost you more than you're looking to spend.

Also frank, if you could stop outbidding my on the 1992 Stadium Club FB Hi # PSA 10's, I'd really appreciate it.

Lee, I'm sorry. The irony is that I had won the D. Brooks PSA 10 RC and was ready to make payment when I said "Let me see what else the seller has". I saw those cards ending and set my snipes. I have numerous player runs that I will be listing on the Registry at some point. Until than I keep track using Excel and pick up the occasional card here and there. Last night was just a case of good timing for meimage, and bad timing for youimage

I had a bid on the Jr. Seau and the L.T. for a little while...image

Edit to add: I'm catching you on the 1990's Football Olympics Frank. Now we'll have to team up to take down the empire...image

The good news is I won't be bidding on the next ones that come upimage

As for the 90's Olympics, I'm pretty surprised. I'm doing every SP and SP Authentic set from 93 up as well as most of the inserts sets (SOTT, Players Ink, Mark of a Legend, etc). Right there that's at least 20+ sets. Could it be a conspiracyimage

Guess you are doing a little better then I guessed. All your sets have different names but the view other sets link lines then up well, so with a little math we have:

    MOSH: 68 Gold, 17 Silver, 5 Bronze

    Frank: 15 Gold, 7 Silver, 1 Bronze

WAW Collection: 8 Gold, 6 Silver, 1 Bronze

    Mark's Card: 7 Gold, 4 Silver, 3 Bronze

I could take a couple more Gold's if I entered a few cards, and a couple more if the sets ever come up, but you still have a good lead over me and WAW. I don't really mess with inserts so I think you are safe...for now...image

Oh, just so you guys know, I wish to buy these sets outright, not build them card by card. I do set run building. image Maybe $50-$60 would be a reasonable price for the 1996 and 1997 sets? The only hard part is FINDING the silly things. image

The only sets I'd even consider doing "the old fashioned way", building one card a a time, would be the 1993 & 1994 Finest jumbos.

Well, remember that most mid-1990s stuff that's not named "Finest refractor" is very low in demand so I'm hoping to be able to use that fact to my advantage.

And I forgot this one last question; does Ultra still include an insert card in every pack like they did starting in 1994? That is, each pack comes with one gold/platnium/masterpiece card AND one insert card (the non-parallel insert sets)?
