Jersey cards in Basic Sets?

I am working on a couple of Basic and Master sets. I noticed some jersey cards in the Basic sets. That is not right. Plus, there are serial numbered too. Does PSA remove cards from Basic sets?

What do you think about Exquisite base cards that are serial numbered? I see two of those were just added to my Brett Favre basic set. These cards are serial numbered to 150 and 350. What the heck????

I personally consider like cards part of the base set if the card is numbered in line with the set. For example, the 2001 Finest rookie cards are numbered out of 1000. They are SP's (short prints) but I consider them base cards.

PSA has moved farther and farther away from the original concept of what a 'Basic' Set is...

It is sad, as it has driven away MANY DOZENS of player set collectors from the PSA Set Registry.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • Once I didn't like the weight factor on a card in a player set. I emailed them, with proof/reasons, about it and they changed it within 24 hours.

Have you emailed them to ask for a change?

Aren't we nearing a point where collectors don't register their sets, just use the basic/master/whatever other term set listing as their own personal checklist. I love the idea of a basic set. I love the idea of a master set. It gives me choices on the competition side of it...but still allows me to collect the cards I want. But the proliferation of obvious master/esoteric card types being listed in the basic is really becoming ridiculous.
I'm glad that I've chosen the sets that I have, to "compete" in. And even then, competition isn't the main focus. But I'm afraid that's what's really forcing the basic sets to expand into the master realm.

Troy I might have requested the base exq's for the favre basic set. since they are "regular" cards from the set I felt that they could go there. However, I dont agree with Jersey, though the 02 Finest Favre card is a jersey card. Not sure if this one is in the set or not. The problem with these sets and some others (all-time team sets) is that there is no true defined rule as to what cards should be included in many of these sets.

    FavreFan,

The current rules for the basic sets say that any base set card is allowed. So if the jersey cards are part of a base set they will be allowed. The only cards excluded from the basic sets are insets and parallel cards. If any of the jersey cards are inserts or are considerd parallels of a base set card, send an email to setregistry@collectors.com and it will be removed.

I think someone can request almost any card to be added and it won't be removed until someone complains. Believe me the 72 Pirates team set is missing some of the World Series cards I complained and was told it was because they don't show a Pirate on the card. The 61 Team Set has the Ford and Mantle WS cards listed and no Pirates on those cards. They are very inconsistent to the point that I just do the cards I want in my set and screw the 100% completion.
Currently completing the following registry sets: Cardinal HOF's, 1961 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1972 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, 1980 Pittsburgh Pirates Team, Bill Mazeroski Master & Basic Sets, Roberto Clemente Master & Basic Sets, Willie Stargell Master & Basic Sets and Terry Bradshaw Basic Set

After thinking about it I don't mind the Exq's in the set. The rules are vague and leads to coversations like this. I guess I just need to ruffle a few feathers now and then.

Here's to Favre not being traded.

dont worry he said he over-reacted, let emotions take the best of him the other day.

they removed the jersey cards. the only reason that i requested the finest is that is part of the set, though not a base card.
