Anyone add "-athens" to their eBay searches? (eBay seller (555)

When searching titles and description, I do this so I don't get the seller (555) cards in my search.

Anyone else do this?

Hey Zef - you'll miss out on some nice cards by not even looking at (555)'s auctions.

Granted, 95 % of the stuff he puts up is garbage,
but you can figure that out by looking at the first five of six of a series of cards.

    He provides decent scans
and I picked up some beautiful 1964 Topps fb cards off eBay from him just a couple of weeks ago ... image

That's a decent point about the scans. How nice were the cards and what were they advertised as?

555 - worst shipping i have ever seen, especially from a large dealer. 5 graded cards at over $700 put into an envelope with no protection at all

I purchased some nice cards from triple nickel (555) but I pretty much have to buy what he labels NRMT/MT to get a NRMT or better card. I look at the scans offered and set my bid accordingly. I don't even look at what he has offered advertised less than NRMT/MT and that saves plenty of time.

  • I won't buy from 555 because of his shipping methods--I can't deal with getting cards with no protection in a plain white envelope. As for his scans, they aren't that great--they don't show the hairline creases on cards he describes as nr mt mint. Regardless of how good his prices are, the disappointment isn't worth it.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

    The usual for eBay :

If the description says NM, the card is EXMT.
If the description says NM-MT, the card is NM.

Not going to find any 8's, but you can still get some nice looking cards ...

Here is an example of a "NRMT/MINT" card:

  • I have purchased a few cards from (555) and at least with those cards they have been inline with PSA. An EX - MT card from 555 was graded a 6 by PSA and a near mint card from 555 was graded 7 by PSA

Like any raw on eBay you are rolling the dice.

I do agree their shipping methods are awful. A few top loaders, scotch tape and a bubble envelope should do the trick. No matter the quanity or value

That EX card described as NM-MT is awful Zef,
and there is no excuse for selling a creased card without disclosing that info. image

Have to admit I've gotten some crappy cards from them too,
but when they're throwing up thousands of auctions at a time
how accurate is the grade they put on a card going to be anyway?

I just take them on a card by card basis and never set my expectations too high ...

That is the way to go. I would guess you should disregard the stated condition and only judge the scan.
