I would have no clue why he wanted to keep the ball.
I do know that years from now, many folks will still recall the subject media report and will have a negative view of RH' action.
Any public figure with common sense would have given the ball to the kid, AND signed it for him.
This is not a private property issue; it is a public relations nightmare. >>
Is is really THAT big of a deal? He caught the ball as a fan and said he was going to keep the ball and showcase it on a shelf at home. Why is he or any other adult required to give the ball to a kid they will never see again?
He signed a ball the kid already had...is that not enough?

Seems more than generous to me.
But, the story is now cast as RH being "selfish" in his dealings with a kid. MLB must continue to get kids into the seats. It is not possible for me to calculate how many parents have heard of the "incident," and adopted a negative impression.
The conduct of folks who are "bigger than life," always gets made into a "big deal." It goes with the gig, and most players accept it as such.
What would Mick have done?

I think this is another example of another of a RICH and SPOILED athlete who think he's above the law. When are these people are going to realize that the FANS pay their salaries? It's no wonder Rickey's "posse" of Bloods and Crips didn't attack this kid and his family for getting so close that he could ask for the ball in the first place, and no, I don't care if Rickey signed an autograph for him. He has no right, NO RIGHT to keep a foul ball he caught. It's pretty simple. To me, he's no better than that murdering SOB OJ Simpson.
Frustrated ex-jocks jealous of professional athletes UNITE!
My nephew just called me up on the cell phone , he's sitting in the front row right on the first base line and he got a foul ball tonight at Shea Stadium , He's been on tv a few times tonight , I missed going to the game tonight by an hour, dag nab it . But he told me I can have the baseball , so that is pretty cool , i asked him to try to get it signed , we'll see what happens .
Snoop was living in the Claremont one around 2000. My ex-girlfriend said he had a gi-normous house in her neighborhood and would always be hanging out with his, er, posse...

The classic Rickey being an a-hole story is when he broke the stolen base record and said something to the effect of "Today, I am the greatest of all time". Well, later that night Noaln Ryan threw his 7th no hitter at like 45 years of age. No, Rickey, actually you're not.
My favorite memory of Rickey as a Met will always be him playing cards in the clubhouse after being taken out of a NLCS game, and Robin Ventura hitting that grand slam single in the misting rain. Hope Rickey had a full house that night...

I guess I missed the "law" that says all foul balls are the property of the child in closest proximity to the place at which it lands. Is everyone's hatred for Rickey so bad that we're saying he's as bad as a murderer? Really. Please tell me this was a joke.
I don't like Rickey, but if he wanted to keep the ball that he caught at the game he bought a ticket as a fan to attend, then that's his right just like anybody else's.

Rickey is, and will always be, a world class tool.
Let 'em keep his little ball.
It'd be funnier if nobody acknowledged his presence!
