1989 Topps Stickercards

Hello all,

I recently opened 6 boxes of 1989 Topps (Yearbook) stickers. On the back of them, according to the wrappers/box and my 2005 Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards, is 66 different "1989 Topps Stickercards." So I was kind of surprized when I was opening the third box and found a checklist card numbered #67. Out of six boxes, I got 3 of the checklist, while more then a dozen of every other card.

I was wondering, does anyone know if this was a short print or a last printing run addition of something like that?

I am putting two sets of the stickers together, one for me and one for my brother, but I will have lots of extras it any team or player collector is interested, let me know and I will trade very easily.

One little tip though; don't bother trying to peel the stickers and place them in the album. The stickers will curl up LIKE CRAZY and will basically not go on the album properly. This only applies to 1988-90 stickers (when they had the hardback, not softback), though.

I'm not familiar with the 1989 Baseball set specifially, but I've broken over 25 boxes of the 1988 Football set so I can tell you what I learned. Each sticker can be found with roughly 3-5 different stickerbacks, and each stickerback can be found with roughly 6-10 stickers. I believe each combination (specific sticker with specific stickerback) was printed in equal quantities. So, a stickerback at the low end of the range for possible stickers will be found less frequently than a stickerback with 10 or more possible stickers. In the 1988 Football set, the checklist stickerback had one of the fewest, if not the fewest, possible sticker fronts in the whole set. I'd be willing to bet the same is true for the 1989 Baseball set.

Thats for your comments Estil and Alan. I guess I can't count....as I pulled 42 of the Cal Ripken "Stickercards" so I likely got more then 30 of all of them, except the checklist. On many of the stcikers it appears that some Stickercards are more common, but I guess I didn't really open enough boxes to say that. I'll pick up a few more if I remember this weekend, can't remember the price but they were giveway almost. I think $2-3 a box.
