Question on 70's Football

Quick question looking at the pop reports for early 70's football and it just doesn't look like that there is really that much out there that is graded. Were the print runs that significantly smaller for football versus baseball? Haven't been to any large shows or many shops and didn't know if there was a lot of material out there to be graded. Am trying to buy the early 70's already graded but thinking will do late 70's by cracking some rack packs or boxes. Does this sound like a good way to approach tackling these sets? Thanks!

Not that I know a whole lot about it, but I think it's a combination of smaller quantities and less collector demand that keeps more from being graded.

If you do pursue a graded set, you're almost always going to come out ahead by buying them already graded unless you just want the thrill of busting packs and grading your own.

Early 1970s football is plentiful but there is almost no demand for commons. Blackborder is right about buying already graded. I sent in a few I thought were blazers, most came back 7s and 8s and I couldn't even get $5.00 each for those. Even stars can be had for well below SMR.

Personally, I think that '71 is one of the most underrated FB around. There are only a few commons that command $$ but with the full color borders and so many key RC's (Dolphins, Steelers plus another 4 or so HOFers RCs) it is still an affordable set. Also, not much unopened stuff due to the search over the years for Bradshaw RCs. Just my .02
