1825 Bolivia 8 Reales - without the pomegranate (flower) in the shield

I'm refering to coin KM#84. Bolivia 8 Reales 1825 Mintmark PTS JL (without pomegranate or fleur-de-lis in arms). Just how rare is this coin? My catalog of world coins doesnt list a price or mintage for this variety. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Well, after one full day with no response I have to assume that this coin must be quite rare just as the Krause manual stated.

It's listed in Calbeto as very rare (rr). That puts it in the same category as 1825 J/P overdate and 1813 FERDIN IIV error.

    Nice pick-up image
  • Thanks for the information, it has a couple of scratches but still a keeper.

Are there any good references on the die varieties in this series?

Andy, I am using "Compendium de las piezas de Ocho Reales" by Calbeto. It lists all 8 Reale varieties from all the Spanish and Spanish Colonial mints. It also includes War of Independence pieces, as well. Expect to pay $300+ for both volumes, though.
