1979 Topps hockey wax tray. Highest price yet.

Ok, I'm not complaining because I own one of these but at $350 this is the highest price I've seen yet. (I wonder if the PSA 10 Gretzky that recently sold for $25,000+ had anything to do with this.) This is an obviously desirable tray but it hasn't been the most difficult one to obtain either.

Wow, I can recall not too long ago when these were going for $200 max. Still a good investment, though, compared to all the "raw" loose packs you see up for sale, as these are truly factory sealed.

  • Yeah, I sold one a few months back for 2 hundred plus.

Was happy, as I still made about $80 more than I had paid for it, and I was afraid I was going to give in and rip it - just too much temptation.

For what it's worth, all 3 of the packs in mine were upside down....

I wonder where the '79 hockey trays were discovered. I've been buying trays since late 2000 and I had never seen a '79 until about 2002 or '03 when I bought mine. There have been many sold since then. There had to have been a large "find" of these. The 1980 hockey trays are practically non-existent compared to the '79s.
