Today Marked The End Of A 30 Year MN Coin Show Tradition ..

Legend (no, not Laura and company, "legend" with a small 'l"
) has it that the monthly coin show held at the HarMar Mall in Roseville, MN has been going on since 1977. The ownership, or at least the manangement, of the mall recently changed hands and told the show promoter that the show was no longer welcome. Therefore today's show was the last at the HarMar location.
But, the good news is Andrew, the show promoter, has found a new location in Roseville- The Roseville Skating Center (2662 Civic Center Drive*, Roseville, MN)
The new show, titled "The Roseville Coin Show," will have it's first show on July 7th. The size of the new show will be slightly larger than the HarMar Mall show.
Anyone that has attended the HarMar Mall show over the past 30 years care to share any fond memories of the show? Let's try to keep this thread positive
Edited to add more show date details:
June- No Show
July 7th
August 18th
September 8th
October: No Show
November 24th (Saturday after Thanksgiving)
December 15th
*It is at the corner of County Road C and Lexington Ave; about 1-1 ½ mile from Har Mar.

At one of the HarMar shows last year I shared a table with my brother-in-law and brought some better stuff just to "show off". Included in the "good stuff" was a raw 1883 Trade$ (Authentic one even... not the economy model currently being offered on Ebay). With the show being a small local show I thought it might get some attention but had no intention of actually selling it. Ended up doing a little horse trading with a local collector and got 4 pretty nice Saint Gaudens $20's.
My brother-in-law is relatively new to selling at shows and commented later he'd never been so close to a "large" deal. He's used to the $1-$50 deals......
I'll have to go check out the "new" Roseville show when it gets started.

Did you happen to see that NGC67* album-toned Buffalo nickel that a guy was showing off last month? He said he purchased it for ten bucks at a garage sale, and that it was the only coin in an old album. It was a damn fine looking coin.
Yes, the stairs are a super feature
I know of a few gentlemen who would not do the show because of that.
There's more than one

I missed that one, I was too busy business at the table to spend much time looking around.
That kinda sucks. The first coin show I ever attended was a Har Mar Mall Coin Show- some time in the late 1980s. I went with my mom and dad and my brother. My dad bought 1980 proof sets for both my brother and me. I still have that proof set.
This must mark the end of an era as far as the old coin shows, and I'm actually surprised that it hung around for so long. The shows at Signal Hills and the West Saint Paul Armory are long gone. The Airport Holiday Inn show is pretty much done. Apache Plaza doesn't even exist anymore. Even though I haven't been to a Har Mar Show for a year or so, I know I'll miss walking down those stairs. Probably my best memories are just sitting down at Foodude's table and searching through his bins of 2x2s looking for Lincoln varieties.
Thanks for the post.
<< <i>At a point in the past, wasn't the mall a common place to hold coin shows/sales? >>
In the 1970's and early 1980's, malls were common show sites. In this area (Detroit) several things happened that
caused the demise of the mall shows:
1. Dealers kept bringing jewelery to the shows, even though they had been told that the mall management prohibited it. The in-mall jewelry stores complained that the show dealers were hurting their business.
2. The rise of the sports card and comic book shows in the 1980's put extra pressure on the coin shows. Mall management started charging for space that had previously been free. The booming card and comic business of that era pushed the less profitable coin shows out.
3. Management attitudes changed. Shows, which had originally been looked on as traffic builders for the malls, started looking like downscale flea markets. The malls didn't want them any more. Many malls were in trouble by the late 1980's/early 1990's and tried going upscale...often without success.
